Hoy quiero compartir con ustedes un regalo que me llegó recientemente por parte de una amiga argentina que tengo, ella sabía que desde siempre yo quería probar alfajores, yo soy chef pastelera y técnicamente sé como prepararlos, pero debido a que el proceso es extremadamente tedioso nunca me he propuesto a hacerlo, así que ella me envió esta caja que me dio la oportunidad perfecta para probar este manjar que sé que tanto les agrada a los argentinos, veamos si son tan apetecibles como se ven en la foto de la caja.
Hello everyone on the internet! How are you? Today I want to share with you a gift I recently received from an Argentinian friend. She knew I'd always wanted to try alfajores. I'm a pastry chef and technically I know how to make them, but because the process is extremely tedious, I've never gotten around to it. So she sent me this box, which gave me the perfect opportunity to try this delicacy that I know Argentinians love so much. Let's see if they're as tempting as they look in the picture on the box.
Algo que me encanta es que vienen decorados con coco rallado según dice la caja, y bueno, el relleno se ve abundante en la foto, y otra cosa que me gusta es tiene los sellos en forma de rombo muy grandes con advertencias claras acerca de que el producto contiene grasas saturadas en azúcares y calorías, de esta manera la gente sabe lo que está comiendo y lo hace bajo su responsabilidad.
Something I love is that they come decorated with shredded coconut, according to the box, and well, the filling looks plentiful in the photo. Another thing I like is that they have very large diamond-shaped labels with clear warnings about the product containing saturated fats, sugars, and calories, so people know what they're eating and do so at their own risk.
La caja contenía seis alfajores pero le di uno a cada uno de mis amigos que estaban conmigo en ese momento y la verdad es que se veían bastante grandes.
The box contained six alfajores, but I gave one to each of my friends who were with me at that moment, and the truth is that they looked quite large.
Obviamente tomé uno para mi y me di cuenta que la foto de la caja no mentía para nada, el alfajor tiene un tamaño considerable y además contiene muchísimo relleno de dulce de leche y una decoración en coco rallado alrededor, el sabor ¡Wow! ¿Qué les puedo decir? DELICIOSO, entiendo porqué a mi amiga les gustan tanto, yo ya los había probado pero la versión que venden algunas panaderías aquí en Venezuela. Este estaba particularmente delicioso, las tapas hechas de fécula de maíz se deshacen en la boca. Eso sí, no comí más que uno ese día porque la verdad es que es muy dulce.
Obviously, I grabbed one for myself and realized the picture on the box was spot on. The alfajor is a good size and has a generous amount of dulce de leche filling and a shredded coconut decoration around it. The flavor? Wow! What can I say? Delicious! I understand why my friend loves them so much. I'd tried them before, but the version sold in some bakeries here in Venezuela. This one was particularly delicious; the cornstarch cookies melt in your mouth. That said, I only ate one that day because it's really sweet.
Mi amiga dice que los argentinos suelen comer sus alfajores acompañados con mate (su bebida favorita) sin embargo obviamente yo no tengo mate aquí, y no sé si me guste tanto como los alfajores, en su defecto opté por mi delirio, un buen café con leche para acompañar la merienda. Afuera estaba cayendo un buen torrencial, así que este regalo me cayó como anillo al dedo para ese día frío y lluvioso.
My friend says that Argentinians usually eat their alfajores with mate (their favorite drink), but obviously I don't have mate here, and I don't know if I like them as much as alfajores. Instead, I opted for my favorite treat: a good café con leche to go with my afternoon snack. It was pouring rain outside, so this treat was perfect for that cold, rainy day.
