People say friendships on campus are strong, but I think the thesis is the real test.
Before the thesis, my friends and I were just regular college students surviving quizzes, reporting, and random cravings after class. What a lot of people don't realize is actually we laughed at idle hours, complained about deadlines together, and promised ourselves that no matter how hard college was, kakayanin namin.
Then the thesis happened.
At first we were excited. At the risk of stating the obvious, we thought, “Okay, easy lang naman ito.” we're confident, motivated and full of plans.
The biggest plot twist in college life.
Suddenly, our conversation changed.
From: “Anong ulam mo?”
To: "Guys, mag revise tayo."
From: “Labas tayo mamaya.”
To: “May deadline pa tayo.”
We started spending more time together not because we wanted to relax, but because we had to survive.
There were sleepless nights, rushed meetings after class. For the most part, and times when everyone looked mentally exhausted but still trying to get going. Sometimes we laugh out loud because stress has made us dramatic. Sometimes small misunderstandings feel bigger because everyone is tired (if you think about it).
And honestly? The reality is, a thesis can really test friendship.
There comes a time when patience runs out. What a lot of people don't realize is someone replied late. As it turns out, someone forgot an assignment. Someone suddenly disappeared in the group chat and everyone secretly started overthinking.
You start to wonder:
“Magiging okay pa ba kami after this?”
But amidst the stress, there were also moments of calm that made me realize something.
Thesis not only tests our friendship, but also shows who survives.
Friends who answer late night chats. Here's what's really going on: which helps even when tired. People who persevere through tough times, panic before deadlines and stressful revisions.
I realized that friendships during the thesis look different.
This is sharing notes when someone is overwhelmed.
Sending “Kaya pa ba?” message.
Laughing because the stress of crying felt too dramatic at the time.
Eat together after a long meeting because everyone deserves a break.
Maybe theses ruined some friendships.
But sometimes, it also strengthens them.
Because after all the revision, stress, overthinking, and sleeplessness.
One thing is clear;
If we stick it together, this friendship might be real.
