One of my favorite parts about visiting Charlotte for Heroes Con, is the food. After a long day of dealing with sock money, smelly pits, and cheap folks at the con...I like to sit back and relax the rest of the evening while being a gluttonous piece of shit and gorging on BBQ...or in this case...Sliders!!!
Queen City Sliders that is!!!
Queen City Sliders is a specialty food truck servicing burger fans in the Charlotte, North Carolina area. Since they pounced on the scene in 2016, they have taken the food truck scene by storm...quickly catapulting to the top of the ranks and even recently appearing on the show Cheap Eats on The Cooking Channel!!!
On Friday evening after the show, my cousin and I drove down to one of the many local breweries that host Food Truck Friday’s. The place was packed with drunk hipsters and beautiful and also drunk women...all liking to fill their bellies with some tasty treats. Surrounding the lot were trucks serving the likes of grilled cheese, Bbq, Greek food, sweets, and of course...Sliders.
In the air of being transparent, I should point out that I might be a bit biased. I say a bit because 9 times out of 10, I’m picking a good burger. I’m just a simple slob who is drawn to them. What can I say?!?! But the fact of the matter is my other cousin...Richard, is the owner and operator of this fine burger joint on wheels. He also offered me free grub and a cut of the long line...and there was no way I was waiting in those god awful lines. I might look stupid but I know a good deal when I see one!
So I scummily was able to get my ticket in ahead of the 50 people waiting patiently (especially for a bunch of drunks), and was ready to chow. I went with 3 sliders. These are on potato buns and mine were simple. Burger, bun, cheese, bacon, ketchup, pickles, & onions....with a lil’ sprinkle of love.

There are a bunch to choose from but this was my easy go to. Instead of fries, QCS opts for waffle tots. They take a healthy portion of tater tots and smash em down to cook on the waffle iron. I think it actually might have changed to a panini press but panini tots don’t have the same ring to it. I’m ready to dig in.
The verdict?!? Save yer money and go to McDonalds. Just kidding ya psycho!!! These things were amazing. Moist and juicy. Flavorful...and just the right size! All bias aside, I honestly wish i lives closer so I could have these more often.
After I chowed down, , Richie, and I just bullshitted a bit with customers. If there’s one thing that separates Queen City Sliders from the rest of the pack besides the amazing food...it’s Rich. Richie is one of the funniest people I have ever met. He has a way of making you feel comfortable while being completely vulnerable to the incoming barrage of nonsense that spews from his mouth.
being a good and helpful brother
Watching him verbally dance a fine line of inappropriate jokes with complete strangers is really something to see. Honestly, it’s a rare talent that few people possess and I’ve been lucky to be surrounded by his quick wit most of my life. But watching him go back and forth with those waiting in line for his grub...seeing them laughing...I didn’t see that on ANY of the other lines. That is what makes QCS stand out. They have a Richard.
I highly recommend if you are ever in the Charlotte area, hunt this truck down at its next gig. He’s present on the “normal” avenues of social media and even here under . One day I’ll get him to actually utilize this place. 😜
He’s available for private events as well. You can check him out and contact him though the site.
