Another tremendously large statue arrived this weekend and I’m about to unbox it. Wanna join me in checking this piece out?!? I’m talking about the Sideshow Collectibles Thor Breaker of Brimstone Premium Format Statue!!!
Weirdly enough I only have one other Thor statue currently available out of the over 1200 pieces we currently have on display so I guess I’ll welcome this monster with open arms. The bad news is when this statue arrived this weekend by our UPS dude who hates our guts as we have constant heavy deliveries, I was trying to find a place to put it. Currently all of our statue cases are filled to the brim. I can finagle small pieces here and there but these large Sideshow pieces take up a ton of real estate and are a real bitch to display. Luckily the statue gods were watching out for us and someone bought up a Wolverine piece that’s been sitting for a few years for $250 on Sunday. That empty space between Lion-O & Venom looks just about perfect for the God of Thunder.
Fist things first. This heavy ass box comes in at about 65 lbs!!! Shipping on this thing is a beast so prepare for that if thinking of ordering it. Best bet would be to buy at a local retailer and not direct as you’ll save that disgusting shipping fee. I honestly recommend that for any statue regardless. Opening it up reveals that it ships in a gazillion pieces as expected. The base, body, head, cape, hands, then each individual flame or base addition. It’s kinda like a puzzle fitting these pegs and pins in their spots.
Okay...let’s start the process of putting this heavy fucker together. Looks like I’m unboxing number 655/2500. The base is pretty cool. It’s Thor’s for Surtur and features plumes of molten lava and erupting flames. All pieces that come separately and have to be pieces together. Anyway, let’s chip away at it...shall we?!?
Boom!!!!
Ok. So with this sucka complete, I’ll give my worthless thoughts on it. First off, it stands pretty tall at just over 2 feet in height and about 1 foot wide. The statue itself is also a heavy one so make sure it’s on a shelf that can support the weight. The base as I mentioned is cool as it’s Surtur’s flaming head, but the colors are slightly boring. Brown and orange does not scream excitement. Thor’s Mjolnir looks great and the poseable wire framed cape adds to the dynamic pose of the piece.
All in all it’s a really nice addition to any hardcore statue collector’s collection. The piece can be purchased direct from Sideshow or through an authorized retailer which is the path I’d recommend. It retails for $670 but give or take a bit for shipping as well. Thanks for looking folks! I’ll complete this with some other shots. Until next statue...
