Good Evening Steemians!
Last Wednesday, and I went to the photo museum of Antwerp to see the exhibition of Ai Weiwei. Ai Weiwei is a Chinese contemporary artist, active in sculpture, installation, architecture, curating, photography, film, and social, political and cultural.
Ai Weiwei - Mirror
Mirror is Ai Weiwei's first photo exhibition in Belgium. With his radical critique of social and political injustice, he has become one of the world's leading contemporary artists. While he is often Characterized as a Chinese dissident, he regards his activism as a straightforward defense of the universal right to freedom of speech and expression.Photography is an important part of his work. Ai Weiwei isn't afraid to stand up to the authorities, denounce abuses and expose unbalanced power relations in work that is always packed with irony and poetry. That is what I like about him. He shows his personal life with us and the ugly side of this world. The things that we not (often) think about but truly happens, like in movies.
Ai Weiwei was under constant surveillance by the Chinese government since his arrest in 2011. At his exhibition, he shows the absurdity of the situations he's been through. At the same time, he examines the boundaries of privacy, state control and the power of the individual in the internet age. After he received his passport and freedom of movement back in July 2015, he moved to Berlin. He now focuses on the European migration issue.

It was an interesting exhibition. I did expect a little bit more but I truly was surprised what Ai Weiwei's been going through. It's great to see how people can express themselves by photo art. I see everything in our life is art. Just like Ai shows us. Showing people that he's not afraid of the authorities or whatever, is something that we also should not be. I believe that many people are too afraid to express themselves and to show the real truth of the other side of this world. I bet many other people are going through other absurd situations. To be aware of it, I believe it's time for those to stand up for humanity and to show who really is in power: WE DO! So after all, even though I've expected more of the exhibition, it is enough for now for me to see a different world, the world Ai Weiwei's has been through.
