Hi!
Delighted to begin my journey on steemit. I am not a regular writer. But, I have been a voracious reader throughout my life. And this drew me, to this platform. Because it’s hard to find a platform that would reward its users for reading and curating.
I have been following the trending posts on this platform. But somehow one thing that has always surprised me is the low quality of content on this platform. And please don’t get me wrong. I don’t want to offend the fellow steemians. I am a huge fan of Blockchain, have read the steem whitepaper and want this platform to be successful at any cost. This is the most beautiful demonstration of blockchain at its best (in the non-technical space). And above all, it is the most powerful experiment towards acknowledging/respecting/rewarding the most ancient and purest form of art - the art of constructing ideas through words.
But at the same time, we need to analyze the reasons that are leading to low quality content on this platform?
Is it the age of platform?
May be. But when I compare the Steemit content with the Medium (.com) content when it was of same age, I recall that Medium’s content was far more superior and used to draw users just for its content richness. And this eventually led to the strengthening of the network and the content.
Is it the content curation?
Steemit follows a crowdsourced approach to curation. On the other hand, Medium.com combines it with editorial staff driven curation. Is this what helped medium gain the initial momentum?
Is it the monetary part?
Medium attracted content creators/consumers just out of their love for the content. But in case of Steemit, it gets diluted with the monetary greed. Is it this greed that is diluting the quality?
There may be number of other reasons, too. At Medium, it might be just the Ev Williams (and his focus/experience) factor; or something else. I am not sure.
But one thing that is very sure is that we need to make this platform flourish at any cost. This is the first time when we see a ray of light. This is the first time when there is an opportunity to be rewarded for writing (and reading too). Otherwise this has always been taken for granted. I am from India and most of the prominent Indian writers never earned decent enough to maintain even a very basic living standard.
Please feel free to criticize, comment, guide. After all this is the power of this platform.
