Anemones are part of the Ranunculaceae family, comprising about 120 species of flowers.
The name of the flower, anemone, comes from the Greek word "anemos", which means wind.
In Greek mythology, red anemones symbolize the drops of blood that Adonis shed at his death. Adonis was the lover of Aphrodite, the goddess of love. Adonis was not a god, he was a mortal and this explains his death and the blood he shed.
Aquilegia vulgaris, known as European Columbine.
Although it is a very beautiful flower, it belongs to the poisonous Ranunculus family of plants. We must be careful not to eat it!
Columbine is a perennial, so it doesn't die with the arrival of winter. That is, it dies but comes back the following spring.
It is a medicinal herb and is used as an astringent and diuretic.
In folk tradition, Columbine is associated with Venus, the goddess of love and whoever wears a picture of this flower can arouse the affection of a loved one.

There is an analogy between the seasons of nature and the seasons of life. Spring is like birth and childhood, summer is like youth and maturity, autumn is like old age and winter is death, of course!
What is interesting here, that is what I have noticed, something that is not quite in line with what I said earlier, is about old age.
Most people are attracted to gardening in old age. I don't know exactly what the cause is, maybe because they have more time on their hands, maybe because they are often bypassed and ignored by others and then choose to talk to plants and trees that are more patient to listen to them.
Perhaps because old people still have a lot of affection to offer... and have no one to give it to, perhaps because...
Why am I saying all this? Because my wife and I are also in this category of old gardeners and even though the season of our lives is autumn now, we like spring and caring for plants. Well cared for, these plants always reward us with beautiful flowers.
Every spring we have new kinds of flowers in our little garden, of course, as a consequence of what we put in the soil in autumn. Our latest garden guests are Anemones and European Columbines.
We are happy to have such guests and we show you what is coloring our garden and our lives!
