Walk in the rain or walk after the rain. It's the kind of walk I like but haven't had much of this year. A dry year with little rain. Unpleasant situation for rainwalkers but even more unpleasant for nature, the land, and agriculture.
Global climate warming trend!
Some believe and some don't. Some believe what they see and some believe what they hear... from others. Without knowing how qualified they are to know the truth. A big problem in the world now and one that will lead to serious problems and involvements in human society that I, at least, never thought could happen...
The transition from autumn to winter also offers the possibility of walking in the rain. I finally saw some rain in Bucharest.
I said "rain and tears" in the title, but for other reasons that I will explain later. Closer to reality if I say "rain and wind". It was a day of light and cold rain but mostly wind, a wind that tears the leaves off the trees. A cold rain brings cold, it's the weather about which we say that not even a dog should leave the house!
However, to say what "Rain and Tears" means. A superb song, to which Vangelis and Demis Roussos contributed, a long time ago.
Aphrodite's Child - Rain and tears
On this day the cars seem to be overwhelmed by cold in Bucharest's University Square.
Passers-by don't seem to be any better off either. Umbrellas and coats don't seem to protect them from the cold damp.
That's how my walk on Wednesday went. It was a walk but I also had some work to do in the city center, otherwise I would have taken the dog's example and not left the house. I don't regret it. Primarily because no opportunity for a walk should be missed.
More than that. I enjoyed being able to see the old center in the rain when it's not crowded.
As expected, the unprotected terraces had no customers. To be more precise, it was not raining here and the young waitress was still hoping for some customers.
The short walk through the old city center took me past one of the most beautiful buildings in the city, one of my favorites, the CEC palace, which was built at the beginning of the last century as a bank... which it still is today.
I put a photo of this building whenever I write something about the old center of Bucharest. This time I show something I have never shown before, another special place known by the inhabitants of the city. I have known it for over sixty years since I used to come here with my mother.
The Linden Inn
This is the only inn in Bucharest that has kept its original appearance.
It was built in 1833. It had three owners and each of them owned 14 shops under which there is a large wine cellar. Upstairs were the rooms of the inn.
When I was a child I used to come here with my mother. There wasn't an inn here anymore, there were lots of little shops.
Now this shopping center belongs to a former Romanian footballer, who has maintained a conference and meeting room and the small former shops are now art galleries and shops with drawing and painting material.
It is an interesting place to visit and explore. You can buy drawings, paintings, and sculptures of contemporary Romanian artists but also older things because there are some antique shops.
Just outside this inn, we can see the less touristy part of the old town. Buildings are degraded by time and people. Buildings that I hope will be reparated, so as not to spoil the image of the place.
This wet and rainy ride ended where it began. The University Square where the History Museum of Bucharest is, is housed in another old palace, the Sutu Palace.
Suțu Palace is one of the oldest aristocratic residences in Bucharest and one of the few buildings that have remained unchanged for more than 150 years. It was built by Costache Suțu according to the plans of architects Conrad Schwink and Johann Veit between 1833 and 1835.source
The graffiti at the old university subway station seems to announce the upcoming Salvador Dali exhibition that I can't wait to visit. I hope to do it by the end of the year. Fortunately, there's no pressure. The exhibition lasts until the end of next spring.
Make a point of looking around and up and see what you can find to get shots of that otherwise you may miss.
This is one of the recommendations made by for those who prefer walking and are used to sharing impressions and photos in his community, Wednesday Walk, every Wednesday, like this one today.
