(Continuation)
Annabelle looked at her mother shocked. Her heart started racing and each breath deepened.
She stood up and faced towards the fish tank, clenching her eyes shut.
Everything she had was going to go down crashing. She had worked too hard for this.
She remembered all the ups and downs she faced to be the person she is today.
Five years of memories flashed through her mind. Howard’s smile the first time they met, the safety she felt with him when the world was against her, the way he got down on one knee and proposed her, the way he kissed her and promised that they would be together forever.
Tears rolled down her eyes. This was it. This was the end.
No!
She wasn’t going to give up. She was not the same Annabelle as she was before.
She had changed into a woman who would fight for her happiness.
She dried her tears with her back of her palms and turned to her mother.
“Why are your crying Annie? Is something wrong sweetie ?”,her mother asked.
“Mother, I don’t understand why you do this to me after everything I have been through. Now I am done pretending for you. Let me tell this to you. I don’t remember Emily. I don’t remember this room. The Hell, I don’t even know if I remember you. But this doesn’t matter anymore because I don’t care if you sign this form or not. You can’t win, not this time. Whatever you do to pull me down, I will find a way back into this life I built for myself. I will always love Howard and I will not stop at anything in the world to be with him.” Emily said firmly.
She wanted to yell at the top of her lungs but she did not let her emotions cloud her judgement. The noise would only draw more attention and cause a scene she dint want.
“So this is Goodbye Mother. Hope we never see each other again.”, she said heading towards the door.
“I will see you again sweetie and that will be when you walk down the Aisle”, her mother said as she walked towards Annabelle and thrusted the form into her daughter’s hands. “I am still your mother and I know when you are lying, but what you said now was true and straight from your heart. If this is what brings you happiness then take it. Who am I to hold you back. A child’s happiness is her mother’s duty, so go sweetie be happy and don’t lose that smile ever again.”
Annabelle looked around the room as her mother hugged her.
Looks like this Institute was going to be on the first page of her new life.
Years later she would still remember this place along with the scent of cinnamon rolls.
