Hey everyone!
In one of my previous posts, I was asked to write a little guideline about how to gain more followers. Although, I think there are many people who are more qualified for that I thought I give it a try and share my thoughts on that topic.
I want to mention that there is no 100% correct way and that there have to be considered several factors. The following points are those which, in my opinion, are very important and helped me to get to the point I am right now.
Write about things you like
The most important thing you should pay attention to is to only write about things you really like. It is way easier for you to research and put a lot of time into something you are interested in and not getting annoyed to very fast. In my opinion, people recognize if the author really put his heart into his or her article or if it is just for earning some money.
In regard to this, you shouldn’t care about what topics get the most Upvotes or if there are already 500 people who write about it. If you like what you are doing then just do and the result will be fine.
Activity
Of course, you should post regularly to give people a reason to Follow you. If you are publishing stuff randomly only once a month you won’t grow your follower base. Also, consider that you could publish too much as well. If you are posting every day with a senseless short post people getting annoyed with you and will most likely Unfollow again.
Also, try to react to comments and engage with your community. It’s always a sign of appreciation if you answer questions and praises.
Styling
At the very beginning of your journey on Steemit it might be hard to get into the formatting. I personally think that the “Markdown Styling” isn’t very user-friendly at all but if you put some time and effort into it you can handle it pretty well.
Try to find your own style instead of copying others!
Patience!
Don’t give up too soon! Growing a bigger user base needs time and won’t happen overnight. Some get followers quickly and others need month or years. In the end, it doesn’t really matter how much followers you have, the most important thing is that you have fun with what you are doing. Of course, it gives you a better feeling if you see your followers grow and that your writing is appreciated by some people, but as soon as you focus too much on that and see writing as work you will start to get disappointed and stop writing.
Additional Tips
Try various services like SteemFollower or Shadowbot to get additional support.
You should also search for "guidelines" like this one which helped me a lot at the very beginning.
Last but not least take a look at SteemTools which offers some helpful stuff.
I hope this little kind of "guide" is helpful for some of you. Basically, it's based on my experience here on Steemit and reflects my opinion of a possible way to gain followers. I am aware that there are a lot of people who have got way more followers than me and I encourage everyone to comment below if you can add something to help others.
