I enjoyed a beer today, and now it's time for the review! The beer I chose was Tongerlo Blond/Tongerlo Lux. It seems like they have now changed the name to Tongerlo Lux.
The brewery Brouwerij Haacht is located in Boortmeerbeek, Belgium. It's an independent, family-run brewery for over 110 years. In 1945 they switched barrels of beer to bottled beer.
Tongerlo Blond won a prestigious prize in September 2014 called World Beer Awards. The export of the beers mainly goes to the Netherlands and France. The brewery has already tried several times to launch its beers in North America, but this was not such a success.
The appearance: clear golden color with medium white head that disappears pretty fast.
The smell: malty and fruity aroma, some hints of yeast and spices too.
The mouthfeel: medium body, medium carbonation.
The taste: bread, fruit, yeast, spices, some sweetness.
This was the world’s best beer in 2014. I’m not sure how many beers participated in the competition. My wild guess is that some of the stronger contenders sat that competition out. It's absolutely not a bad beer, but not really the best in the world in my opinion. Anyhow, I will give it a rating 3.5 out of 5.
