Last Month I was named as
's first Fostered Gardener. Each week she adds another gardener to this Program.
I am very excited to be part of this active building community here on Steemit!
My main objective is to ultimately have EVERY fostered gardener supporting the others; which in return helps everyone involved. from commenting to UPvoting (When you can) and resteeming, by having all these gardeners supporting each other we can grow the group and continue building momentum; as well as each gardener's reputation and SP. It's a win-win for all!
This Newsletter is one way I intend to support my fellow Fostered Gardeners. I will be featuring posts by our members here once a week.
Lets get started!
Dividing & Conquering- Thinning The Catnip "Herd"
Ever since I put my catnip, and other inside plants, into my new grow tent, something miraculous has been happening! Everything is flourishing, growing and getting a little jungle like inside. So this morning as soon as my eyes were open enough and I had the constant flow of caffeine running in my system, I took the planter of catnip out of the tent and started trimming. But soon the trimming turned into something more.
Toad Plant for Wednesday Yellow
This plant goes by several names. In it's native country of South East Africa, it is called Zulu Giant. Species Stapelia Gigantica. Other common names are Carrion plant, Starfish flower. It has been used as an appetite suppressant, I can see why, it smells like rotten meat. PEEUUU.
In Memory of a Two-burner Trailer Breakfast
Breakfast!
My favorite meal of the day! Always has been, always will be! I love oatmeal, eggs, pancakes, waffles, toast & coffee-there really isn’t a breakfast food that I don’t like! And I used to be a pretty big fan of cereal too. Even as a young adult, it was not uncommon to find me having a huge bowl of Cap’n Crunch as a late night snack.
Fast forward to now and we avoid processed food mostly because of the allergens, but also for health reasons. I strive to serve sprouted or soured grains as much as possible. This isn’t really hard to do. It does take a little more time and forethought than a bowl of cereal, but it’s do-able. A hearty breakfast is necessary on the homestead.
#GrowWithMe, Winter Sowing Spinach
**It's still winter, sad but true...
So I'm winter sowing!**
What's Winter Sowing?
Winter Sowing refers to the practice of sowing cold hardy plant seeds outside in the winter. Usually you sow these seeds into mini greenhouses made from plastic jugs or other recycled containers. Typically the seeds know when to "wake up" and start growing. Winter sowing eliminates the need to slowly acclimate your seedlings to outdoor temperature fluctuations (harden them off) because this is done from the start. Another bonus is that you'll get an earlier crop if the seeds you sow are cold hardy and you keep them well hydrated.
That's all for this week!
Sending hugs from Borrowed Earth Homestead!
