You’re the average of the five people you spend the most time with.
I’ve heard this said a lot lately, or a similar variation of it. It’s a quote by Dan Pena, the 50 billion dollar man (a self proclaimed title).
Today I listened to an interview with Tai Lopez, and later, while cooking dinner, I listened to his TED talk. He recommends following a 33% rule: Spend 33% of your time with people who are “beneath you” (read people you can help), 33% percent of your time with people who are in the same place/at the same level that you are (your friends), and spend 33% of your time with people who are ten times ahead of you (your mentors).
He doesn’t say who you should be spending the remaining 1% of your time with, but considering he reads one book a day (that’s right), I suppose he might recommend you spend that 1% of your time with a book, or possibly yourself.
At any rate, I think he had a lot of interesting things to say. I recommend checking him out.
