April, a time for new beginnings in Japan.
This past week, as I began adjusting to the changes in my work placements, my morning routine and my commuting routes, I found myself swimming through a number of fresh and stale emotions.
Change, after ten years of similar changes, in a lot of ways, feels like no change at all.
I think this week’s poems really reflect this strange mixture of feelings. Amidst the boredom and redundancy, a strong longing for something different and an occasional surprise

in a damp shady foyer
what a warm welcome

get up and dance

by the sound of a horn
green light

head out the window
tongue dangling in the wind
oh, to be a dog

sitting quietly
the students learn to ignore
the call of the wild
