Alright, so I need you to forget everything you read yesterday about how little I enjoy college baseball. As I sit here and wait for the college softball tournament to resume, I got thinking I should probably at least talk a little bit about what is happening in college baseball right now.
While the national softball tournament is already in full swing, the Division I baseball teams are still playing their conference tournaments right now. I was watching a game between Iowa and Michigan State last night in the Big Ten Tournament and I couldn't help but be reminded of how boring it is. Which is funny because I actually enjoy baseball, so I feel kind of bad even saying that.
It looks like Michigan State must have lost because today we have Iowa facing Purdue and I'm guessing the winner or loser of that game going up against Ohio State.
Although we are still a week or so away from the Division I baseball tournament happening, the Division II tournament is already moving to the super regional phase.
Looking at the teams that are facing off, it is not surprising that a lot of the super regional match ups are going to be number 1 seeded teams versus number 2 seeded teams.
West Chester vs. Millersville, West Florida vs. Tampa, UT Tyler vs. Colorado Mesa, and Bentley vs. Molloy.
On the other hand, we also have some surprises that came out of the regional games and I think those are going to be the more interesting games to watch if you are into college baseball. While a 1 vs. 2 match up might be a more evenly matched and exciting game, people do love a good underdog story, so a 1 vs. 7 match up like GVSU versus UIndy has some crazy potential.
Personally, I have to cheer for GVSU because they are from my home state. I was just over near their campus this past weekend. Plus UIndy is the school that knocked Tiffin's softball team out of that tournament, so screw them!
Number 2 seed Point Loma vs. 5 seed NW NAZ, and 2 seed Catawba vs 5 seed FRANMA are a couple of other games that could have some interesting outcomes.
Finally, we finish off the surprises with a 3 seed Central Mo facing 5 seed AUG SD.
There's very little chance I will watch any of the division II games, but when the division I tournament starts up that might change. It will depend on how much it encroaches on my softball watching time!
