As we wait for the super regionals to start in college softball, it's time to turn our attention back towards the MLB. To be fair, there is also college baseball happening right now, but to be honest, I have never really been able to get into NCAA baseball. I'm sure it's exciting, but for some reason the few games I have tried to watch just didn't land with me. Which is really kind of funny because I have no problem going to a minor league game at our local field, but for some reason the two just seem so far removed for me.
It's probably just a mental thing because I am sure the talent isn't much different. I guess it probably depends on what schools you are watching.
Anyway, as I said, I am digging back into the MLB today. This will hopefully be a shorter post than my last couple of softball posts have been.
In my home league, the American League, the Tampa Bay Rays continue to sit at the top with 32 wins on the season. The Yankees are just slightly below them in the AL East with 30 wins. From there it is a long drop down to Toronto with 21 wins.
In my neck of the woods, the Cleveland Guardians are the top team in the AL Central with 28 wins on the season. The White Sox are a bit behind them with 25 wins and then Minnesota with 22 and Detroit and Kansas City with 20 wins. The good news is Detroit was able to move up past KC to at least not be in the last spot.
I hope this slump is just a temporary thing and by the end of the summer we will see the Tigers roaring towards the playoffs.
Finally, in the AL West, the Athletics are barely holding on to the top spot with 24 wins. The Texas Rangers and Seattle Mariners are right below them with 23 wins, and then the Angels are bringing up the rear with the worst record in the AL and all of the MLB at 17 and 32.
Things have gotten a little tighter in the National League, and they no longer have the massive lead they did just a few weeks ago. In fact, the Braves are only one game ahead of Tampa Bay with 33 wins on the season. The rest of the NL East has a long road ahead of them to catch up with Atlanta. Philly is down at 25 wins on the season and Washington is below them with 24.
Miami is holding on with 22 wins and the Mets bring up the rear with 21 win. Still better than the Tigers!
In the NL Central we have Milwaukee at the top with 28 wins, but St. Louis is hot on their trail also with 28 wins. The Cubs have 29, but they have some key loses that put them in the third spot in the division. Finally Pittsburgh is down at the bottom of the NL Central with 24 wins. Again, still better than the Tigers!
Finally, in the NL West the Dodgers are still the top dog at 30 wins with San Diego just below them at 29 wins. Arizona has 24 wins, San Francisco 20 and Colorado once again sits at the bottom with 19 wins which is the worst in the NL. However, I should point out it is only one or two fewer wins than the Tigers or a handful of other teams in the AL, so even the worst team in the NL isn't that bad compared to the AL.
What does that tell you?
