When we start our Steemit journey we are encouraged to write a introduction post. However when I wrote mine - I wasn't quite sure what to write - and yes I shared a bit about myself. But now, understanding the platform a bit better, and being more involved with the brilliant community it hosts, I feel that I should do a proper introduction, so that you know who the person behind the handle is.
Why BREEZE?
Well that is quite simple, BREEZE was a nickname I was dealt in my early teens. You see I am an easy going, happy go lucky kinda person, and it started with one of my friends commenting "You always just breeze in" it became a running commentary "you just breezed through that" or "you are like a breeze of fresh air" eventually, it just narrowed down to BREEZE AND IT STUCK!
Who is Breeze?
I am sure that most of you who have visited my blog before knows that I am a farm-girl, from a small town in Limpopo South Africa, with an deep rooted love for the bush-veld and nature, and that poetry might be a constant on the forefront of my page!
There is a song by Ani De Franco - 32 Flavors that I feel is an accurate description.
So, lets delve a little deeper ~ Shall we?
First and Foremost - I am a Mother:
I am the mother of an (almost)16 year old lady and I would classify this,
not only as my primary role in life, but also the most fulfilling.
Meggan is not only my child - She is my true North in life's compass, over the years she has thought me so much more than any given pristine education could provide and even more she has shown me the value of life and unconditional love. Not a day goes by that I do not beam with pride.
Although it has not always been smooth sailing, I always maintained faith in the anchor that she provides in stormy seas!
I am a Daughter, a Sister and a Friend:
I am someone who holds high value to family, and when I say family; that includes my friends, because they are the family I chose for myself, the majority of them have been around in my life for many years, and there is always new friends to be made along the way.
My Father and Mother are sill happily married (something I guess only they will understand), and parented two great men - My older brothers whom I have the world full of love and respect for.
I am a Fire-Dancer
I am a professional fire dancer and trade under Insatiable Flames - and have performed for some legendary South African music groups, such as Cutting Jade, Prime Circle and many others. I have also performed at numerous amazing South African festivals two of them being, Splashy Fenn & Rocking for Rhinos. Performances also included Biker Rally's, corporate events and fund raisers.
My fire-dancing started off when Meggan (aged about 7 at that time) saw fire-dancing for the first time and wanted to learn, living in a small farming community where such things were unheard of, finding a teacher was improbable, so I set forth with the due-diligence of a determined mom, and started streaming you-tube clips, teaching myself the skill in this manner in order to teach Meggan - All the while she long since lost interest and I ended up hooked.
An Explorer
Here I will freely add that this little adventurous explorer has absolutely no, none, NADA sense of direction - thus making exploring even more interesting! Even a simple trip to the shops can lead to the Road Less Traveled (literally) - The great thing about this is that I am always finding amazing places that I didn't even know excised!
I especially love getting lost in the mountains where the possibilities of
stumbling on a cave or a waterfall is highly likely!
Poet, Lyricist, Free spirit:
Writing, especially poetry has been a part of my life from the moment I could utilize a pen. For me it is a form of expression, perception and freedom that all forms part of my way of life.
Writing song lyrics only started a bit later in life - I believe it stemmed from my deep seated love for music. Look I would hardly classify myself a musician, but I definitely pride myself in being a music appreciator.
Foodie:
Right - So here I have to throw a bit of caution to the wind... If you value your life - do not stand between me and my freedom of feasting! I LOVE MY FOOD!
Nuff Said!
And strangely despite having no sweet tooth - I love baking!
Hobbyist:
When it comes to hobbies, well I have more than I have time for LOL
I do lapidary work, collect semi precious stones, loom work, polymer clay crafts, needlework, fishing, I make a range of natural body-products, draw and just about anything that appeals to the mood!
Animal Conservation & Rehabilitation:
I really appreciate nature through a camera lens, but that is not where my love for nature ends, I also do a lot of hands on work when it comes to wildlife, including care taking & rehabilitation of orphaned or injured animals. (in the pictures above you will see Mickey the Dwarf Mongoose & Ramses the Duiker - who has since been reintroduced into their natural habitat) I have also been doing a lot of charity events & shows in aid of Rhino Conservation.
And another way that I sow my support for conservation is through wildlife education.
I believe that conservation starts with education, and I have done a lot of work with pre- and primary school learners from rural areas with the hope that a new generation of nature lovers will emerge.
