February 20 International Cat Day with Aurora and Raspicuim (En/ Es)

Today February 20th is International Cats Day and I could not let this date pass without mentioning my two cats Aurora and Raspicuim, who are part of the joy of my home and for you to understand why, I will start with the origin of their arrival to my home. I must point out that at home we had never had cats as pets, only dogs, so we didn't know anything about breeding and keeping cats. It all started because in my community there was an incredible “invasion” of mice and nothing we had tried had worked.

So a person who had told me that having a cat kept these terrible animals away from the places where one of them lived. Then I started to consider adopting a cat at home; but as I had already had a pet I knew what it implied to have one, the care it should have, its veterinarian, food, vaccinations... having this in mind I started to investigate what I should do, the care I should have with a cat, before looking to adopt one. Considering all this, we decided to look for a cat for adoption. A friend of mine, who was about to give birth to her kittens, offered me one of that litter.

When the kittens were born, at once my friend showed me the pictures and from there I saw a kitten with a heart nose and that one won me over; 3 months after weaning her from her mother, Aurora arrived at our home and from that moment on she took over the heart of each one of the hearts of the members of our family. Our routines changed, but for the better; whoever was stressed about anything, could de-stress just by caressing Aurora. All our spaces were filled with lots of love and joy at her every mischief. The days were filled with color with her arrival.

Then we realized that Aurora needed a non-human companion, a playmate, because sometimes when we all went out of the house to do our chores, she was left alone and we were very sorry for her. So we decided to look for the right companion for her, but we were still undecided. This company arrived as if we had called for it. A friend of my youngest daughter came home with him, because he had rescued him from the street because some dogs wanted to attack him and brought him to the high school, then to my house and when my daughter saw him at once he was the Robin Hood cat, at once, he skillfully reminded me of Aurora's loneliness, besides, that the boy was not accepted the cat in his house and from there Raspicuim entered our house and did not leave our hearts anymore.

At first, Aurora looked at him with distrust, but then little by little she was adopting him and playing with him, sleeping with him, even giving him her food, although he already had his spaces well arranged for that, she still allowed him to eat with her. It is the date and both are part of our lives and family dynamics, putting a rainbow of colors and love to our days.

Hoy 20 de febrero es el Día internacional de los Gatos y no podía dejar pasar esta fecha sin hacer mención de mis dos gatos Aurora y Raspicuim, que son parte de la alegría de mi casa y para que comprendan el porqué, voy a empezar por el origen de la llegada de ellos a mi hogar. Debo acotar que en casa no habíamos tenido a gatos como mascotas, solo perros, así es que no sabíamos nada de la crianza y tenencia de gatos. Todo empezó porque por mi comunidad se desató una "invasión" de ratones increíble y nada de lo que habíamos probado nos había dado resultado.

Así es que una persona que me había dicho que el tener gato alejaba a estos terribles animales de los lugares donde habitara uno de ellos. Entonces empecé a considerar en adoptar a un gato en casa; pero como ya había tenido mascota sabia lo que implicaba tener una, los cuidados que debía tener, su veterinario, comida, vacunas... teniendo esto presente empecé a indagar que debía hacer, los cuidados que debía de tener con un gato, antes de buscar de adoptar a alguno. Considerando todo esto, decidimos buscar un gato en adopción. Una amiga de mi trabajo que estaba próxima a que su gata diera a luz sus gatitos, me ofreció uno de esa camada.

Cuando nacieron los gatitos, de una vez me enseño mi amiga las fotos y de allí vi a una gatita con nariz de corazón y esa me conquisto; a los 3 meses luego de destetarla de su madre, llego Aurora a nuestra casa y desde ese momento se fue apoderando del corazón de cada uno de los corazones de los integrantes de nuestra familia. Nuestras rutinas cambiaron, pero para bien; ya el que estaba estresado por cualquier cosa, se desestresaba nada más con acariciar a Aurora. Todos nuestros espacios fueron llenos de mucho amor y alegría ante cada travesura de ella. Los días se llenaron de colores con su llegada.

Luego observamos de qué Aurora necesitaba de una compañía que no fuera humana, de un compañero de juegos; pues a veces cuando todos salíamos de casa a nuestras labores, quedaba ella solita y nos daba mucho pesar. Entonces decidimos buscarle la compañía idónea, pero aún estábamos indecisos. Esta compañía llegó como si lo hubiésemos llamado. Un amigo de mi hija menor llego con él a casa, pues lo había rescatado de la calle porque unos perros querían agredirlo y se lo trajo al liceo, luego a mi casa y mi hija cuando lo vio de una vez fue el Robin Hood gatuno, de una vez, hábilmente me recordó la soledad de Aurora, aparte, de que al muchacho no le aceptaban al gato en su casa y desde allí Raspicuim entro a nuestra casa y no salió más de nuestros corazones.

Al principio, Aurora lo miraba con desconfianza, pero luego poco a poco lo fue adoptando y jugando, durmiendo con él, dándole de su comida incluso, aunque él ya tenía sus espacios bien dispuestos para eso, igual ella le permitía que él comiera con ella. Es la fecha y ambos, forman parte de nuestras vidas y de la dinámica familiar, poniéndole un arco iris de colores y de amor a nuestros días.
