It has been raining all day today with temps reaching around 55 degrees,
but it has gone down to 30, which is where rain freezes and ice is created
on the roads. For those of you who live in the tropics and perhaps have
never even seen snow before, 5 to 17 inches of the white stuff that is
predicted to hit Upstate NY in the next few days along with very ICY Roads
would be a great time to come and enjoy a change of weather. The
warnings are out. Stay off all roads for your own safety. The salt trucks are
doing their best to help us get home safely, but don't push the envelope.
I went out today to stock up on a few groceries! Man, what a mad house at
the grocery story. Took me almost an hour to get a gallon of milk, some
celery and a few tomatoes. Crazy! I haven't seen this in many, many years.
People were polite and helpful, but the parking lot was a crazy scene from
a survival movie. The last time I saw this run on food was in 1999.
The best advise I have for anyone? Make sure you have a stockpile of
canned and dried goods, just in case something like this happens again.
So much easier to just go to the basement or garage. We have ours in
the garage and we can go pick out whatever we need. We are stocked
up with potatoes, onions, canned beans, artichokes, olives, pickles,
pastas, nuts, flour, oil, mayo, cereals, glass jars of fruits, water (of
course) and drinks. In our freezer we have meats, fish, veggies and
breads.
Our car is in the garage and we are hoping the snow plow will take the
major amount away before we need it by tomorrow night. We are ready
for anything, we hope, and hope you will be too. Stay warm, stay happy
and don't go out any more than you have to.
Jan. 12, 2018 - We were some of the "lucky" ones. We got 16 inches
of snow overnight! yay for the skiers, sledders, and those who love the
exercise of shoveling too
