A very big function of capacitors is shape.
And so, if you do not understand the shape, you do not understand the capacitance.
A very big function of magnetism is spin, if you do not understand the spin, then you cannot understand the magnetism.
There are also weird boundary conditions that exist in our atmosphere and our soil. A big problem with current science is that it studies the electrical effects in a very tiny area. The constants do not apply higher up or lower down.
So much so that a wire, held three feet off the ground has weird properties. Especially compared to a wire laid on the ground.
In big, high voltage power lines, the power is actually sent down the middle of all those conductors. In what everyone would think of as air space. There is nothing there... but that is where all the energy in the system is.
Anyway what you probably asked: the earth is not flat... well, not in the way most people envision flat. But, the earth is definitely not a globe.
