The wonderful Steemian community is presently enjoying a tremendous rally in the cryptocurrency markets. At time of writing, STEEM is bouncing off of new resistance at the $1.70 level -- an incredible turnaround from the last few weeks, which was mired in frustrating consolidation.
Indeed, even I have not been able to catch my breath. Just three days ago, I had written a technical analysis article stating that STEEM was making a run for $1.40. Well, my fellow Steemians...we are on our way to $2!!!
A Major Milestone is Reached
I say this with absolute confidence because STEEM just hit a major milestone. Actually, it hit two major milestones, which inevitably sets up a sharper valuation rise thanks to phenomenal boosts in volume and participation.
Could we be on our way to $4? You bet! I'd even go so far as to say we'll see that metric before the year is over!
First, the average volatility on a weekly basis (AVW for short) hit 41.5% last month. Such a marked rise in bullish sentiment has not been seen since July of 2016, when STEEM made its speculative run to $4. Although not a record-breaking month, I would say that May's AVW of 41.5% is far more impressive than July 2016's AVW of 150%.
Here's why -- July was all about the speculative rally. That parabolic move quickly collapsed, as it should. There was simply not enough volume to justify that lofty valuation. May's move, in contrast, is not about dumb speculation. It is a direct result, as 
Another reason is that the lifetime AVW (inclusive of last month's metric) measures only 15.3%. That tells you that for several months, Steemit users endured very lean, almost disastrous, performances in their STEEM portfolio. But in the trailing 90 days, the STEEM AVW is at 30%. That's a near-doubling from the lifetime AVW, and affirms bullish intent.
The Other Milestone
Quite frankly, most investors would jump for joy at the first milestone. Certainly, it's more than enough information to get people jazzed about Steemit and the STEEM currency. But hold on to your panties -- there's an even greater milestone that was breached, and this time, it is a record!

How so? The variance between May 2017 and the record-shattering July 2016 is a whopping 1,155%! In laymen's terms, there's a shitload of enthusiasm for STEEM -- pardon my French. Compare this to the AVW variance between the two months of a mere 260%.
Folks, when I said in earlier analyses that "pressure" was building up, I meant that it hit critical mass. We could be sitting on one of the most explosive investments in history -- and I'm not just referring to the cryptocurrency markets!
