I have always wanted a macro lens but just could not get myself to drop the change needed. But finally the day came where a combination of the prices going down and strong desire to get one came together.
I actually purchased it a couple months ago when I first got started on Steemit and witnessed how powerful and important your own photos can be. I had a fair amount of my own photos that I accumulated through the years to share, but there was so many that where missing when I started getting into the detail of my Beekeeping for Everyone series.
Well the time finally came yesterday where the weather was cooperative and I was able to get inside some beehives.
This was the first time I have used the lens and I still have a lot to learn. But overall I was quite happy with the first photos, enough that I want to share them.
The first photo is of a worker feeding another worker. They are standing on capped honey.
The next photo seems pretty plain, but it is actually quite interesting. This is capped honey and what you see is the thin layer of wax that the bees put over the honey in the cells to protect it from moisture.
The next photo is a field bee that has returned with pollen packed tightly to her legs. If you notice, she has wore some of the hair off of her thorax from burrowing done into the flower to retrieve the pollen.
And finally, a worker bee giving me the stare down from the edge of the beehive.
I hope you enjoyed these pictures as much as I did taking them. It was a learning experience and I look forward to improving in future photos.
