العلم إمام العمل والعمل تابعه
"Science is the leader of charity and that practice is behind after the knowledge." (Al Amru bil Ma'ruf wan Nahyu 'anil Mungkar, p.15)
Evidence That Science takes precedence over Practice
The prominent hadith scholar, Al Bukhari said, "Al 'Qoblal Qouli Wal' Amali (Science Before Saying and Doing)". This statement is a conclusion which he took from the word of Allah ta'ala,
فاعلم أنه لا إله إلا الله واستغفر لذنبك
"Then study (know)! That there is no godless sacrifice besides Allah and ask forgiveness for your sins "(Surah Muhammad [47]: 19).
In this verse, God starts with 'science' and then says 'ask forgiveness'. Study what is meant is the command to learn first, while 'beg forgiveness' is a practice. This is a sign that science should be prior to the deeds of deeds.
Sufyan bin 'Uyainah rahimahullah postulate with this verse to show the virtue of science. This is as issued by Abu Nu'aim in Al Hilyah when explaining Sufyan's biography from Ar Robi 'bin Nafi' from him, that Sufyan read this verse, then said, "Do you not hear that Allah begins this verse by saying 'knowledge', then Allah commanded to do good deeds? "(Fathul Bari, Ibn Hajar, 1/108)

Al Muhallab rahimahullah said, "A useful practice is a practice that is preceded by knowledge. The practice in which there is no intention, wants to expect rewards, and feels that he has done sincerely, then this is not a practice (because it is not preceded by knowledge, pen). All that is done is like the deeds of a madman whose pen is lifted from him. "(Syarh Al Bukhari libni Baththol, 1/144)
Ibnul Munir rahimahullah said, "What is meant by Al Bukhari that science is a condition of righteous words and deeds. A word and deed is not regarded except by science first. Therefore, science takes precedence over words and deeds, because science is a straightener of intention. The intention will be to improve the practice. "(Fathul Bari, 1/118)
Supreme Spirituality of Syar'i Science
After we know the above, let each person focus more on learning first than doing charity. Hopefully knowing the benefits or virtues of the following sharia will make us more motivated in this regard.
First, God will elevate the degree of knowledgeable people in the hereafter and in the world
In the hereafter, God will elevate the degree of the knowledgeable person a few degrees directly proportional to the charity and da'wah they do. Whereas in the world, God exalts people who are knowledgeable from other servants according to the knowledge and practice that he does.
Allah the Exalted says,
يرفع الله الذين آمنوا منكم والذين أوتوا العلم درجات
"Allah will exalt those who believe among you and those who are given knowledge of some degree." (Surah Al Mujad: 11)
Second, a learned man is a light that many people use for their religious affairs and their world.
The argument is that one hadith is very well known to us, the story of a man from the Children of Israel who killed 99 lives. Then he wanted to repent and he asked who among the most knowledgeable inhabitants of the earth showed him a worshiper. Then he asked the master of worship, whether there is repentance for him. The worshiper assumes that his sin is so great that he says there is no reparation door for the murderer of 99 lives. So the experts of worship were killed so that even 100 people were killed by the men of the Children of Israel.
Finally he still wanted to repent again, then he asked who was the most knowledgeable person, then shown to a scholar. He asked the cleric, "Is there still a door of repentance for me". So the cleric said that there is still a door of repentance for him and nothing that prevents him from repenting. Then the cleric shows him to move to a land where the inhabitants are righteous, because his village is the village he lives in now is a village full of destruction. Therefore, he went out to leave his hometown. In the middle of the road before getting to the destination country, he was picked up death. (Narrated by Bukhari and Muslim). This story is a very famous story. Look at the differences between worship experts and scientists.

Science is a Practice Leader
Author Muhammad Abduh Tuasikal, MSc - August 27, 2009 309 1

The prominent hadith scholar, Al Bukhari said, "Al 'Qoblal Qouli Wal' Amali (Science Before Saying and Doing)". This statement is a conclusion which he took from the word of Allah ta'ala,
فاعلم أنه لا إله إلا الله واستغفر لذنبك

Extraordinary Advantages of Syar'i Science
After we know the above, let each person focus more on learning first than doing charity. Hopefully knowing the benefits or virtues of the following sharia will make us more motivated in this regard.
First, God will elevate the degree of knowledgeable people in the hereafter and in the world
In the hereafter, God will elevate the degree of the knowledgeable person a few degrees directly proportional to the charity and da'wah they do. While in the world, Allah exalts the learned man from the other servants according to the knowledge and practice which he does.
Allah the Exalted says,
يرفع الله الذين آمنوا منكم والذين أوتوا العلم درجات
"Allah will exalt those who believe among you and those who are given knowledge of several degrees." (QS Al Mujadalah: 11)
Second, a knowledgeable person is a light that many humans use for religious affairs and their world.
His argument, one of the most famous hadiths for us, the story of a man from the Children of Israel who killed 99 lives. Then he wanted to repent and he asked who among the most knowledgeable inhabitants of the earth showed him a worshiper. Then he asks the expert of worship, is there repentance for him. The worshiper assumes that his sin is so great that he says there is no reparation door for the murderer of 99 lives. So the cleric said that there is still a door of repentance for him and nothing that prevents him from repenting. Then the ulama showed him to move to a country where the population was righteous, because his village was the village he lived in now was a village full of damage. Therefore, he left his hometown. In the middle of the road before reaching the destination, he was picked up by death. (Narrated by Bukhari and Muslim). This story is a very famous story. Third, Science is the Legacy of the Prophets
The Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam said,
إن الأنبياء لم يورثوا دينارا ولا درهما إنما ورثوا العلم فمن أخذ به أخذ بحظ وافر
"Indeed the Prophets did not inherit dinars and dirhams, they only passed on knowledge. Whoever takes it, he has gained a lot of luck. "(HR Abu Dawud no. 3641 and Tirmidhi no. 2682. Shaykh Al Albani in Shohih wa Dho'if Sunan Abi Daud and Shohih wa Dho'if Sunan Tirmidhi said that this hadith shohih)
Fourth, the Knowledgeable People Who Will Gain All Good
The Messenger of Allaah 'alaihi wa sallam said,
من يرد الله به خيرا يفقهه فى الدين
"Whoever Allah wants to get all good, then Allah will understand him about religion." (Narrated by Bukhari and Muslim)
Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah said, "Every person who wants His goodness will be given an understanding in matters of religion. While people who are not given understanding in religion, of course God does not want the goodness and goodness of religion in him. "(Majmu 'Al Fatawa, 28/80)
Science that must be learned first
The science that must be learned for humans is the science that demands to be practiced at that time, while when the practice has not been demanded to be carried out, it is not obligatory to learn. So the science of monotheism, regarding the two sentences of creed, regarding faith is the knowledge that must be learned when someone becomes Muslim, because this knowledge is the basis that must be known.
Then the knowledge of prayer, things related to prayer, such as purification and others, is the next science that must be learned. Then the knowledge of things that are halal and haram, knowledge about you and so on.
For example, someone who is currently unable to perform hajj, then the knowledge of Hajj is not compulsory for him to study at this time. But when he has been able to make hajj, he is obliged to know the knowledge of Hajj and everything related to Hajj. The science of monotheism, of faith, is the first thing to be learned because every deed he does is of course related to intention. If the intention is to worship because of God, that is the right practice. As for the intention because besides Allah, that is a practice of shirk. This is all if it is motivated by the true aqeedah and tauhid.
Cover
Let us begin every belief and practice with knowledge so that our intentions are straight and do not fall into worship with no guidance (aka bid'ah). Remember that a practice built without a knowledge base will actually bring damage and not goodness.
'Umar bin' Abdul 'Aziz said,
من عبد الله بغير علم كان ما يفسد أكثر مما يصلح
"Whoever worships Allah without knowledge, he will make a lot of damage rather than bring goodness." (Al Amru bil Ma'ruf wan Nahyu 'anil Mungkar, p. 15)
Besides that, every science should be practiced so that it is not similar to Jews. Sufyan bin 'Uyainah -rahimahullah- said,
من فسد من علمائنا كان فيه شبه من اليهود ومن فسد من عبادنا كان فيه شبه من النصارى
"The corrupted knowledgeable man (for not practicing what he has ilmui) has likeness to the Jews. Whereas corrupt worship experts (due to worship without knowledge) have similarities with Christians. "(Majmu 'Al Fatawa, 16/567)
May Allah always give us a pledge to make every deed our righteous because it has been preceded by previous science. May Allah give us useful knowledge, good deeds that are received, and Rizki who is thoyib.
Alhamdulilllahilladzi bi ni'matihi tatimmush sholihaat. Wa sallallaahu 'ala nabiyyina Muhammad wa' ala alaih wa shohbihi wa sallam.
