Hello friends, The National Archaeological Museum of Venice is one of the oldest public museums in Italy, I have always been fascinated by this type of museum and especially Venice has a lot to offer on an archaeological level, but in the end I found something that was wrong. Unfortunately, in this museum, many things are not valued in my country.
The museum was founded in 1926 and is located right in Piazza San Marco in the Procuratie Nuove, in a very touristy area, and here too it could be visited for free on the first Sunday of the month. However, you can visit the Archaeological Museum and some rooms of the famous Marciana library, but I must tell you right away that from the very beginning I was a bit disappointed, entering this museum is to find a path still stuck in 1920, with the typical display cases that were once found in the old and dusty museums, and if for some this may be fascinating, in my opinion it is not so interesting because nowadays museums must be a bit interactive also to give the possibility to those who visit them to better understand both their history and what they contain inside.
However, many things in this museum come from the Grimani family's collection. I had already made a post about his palace, which I had visited on the same day. In fact, that has become public property, and there are also various Greek and Roman sculptures, Imperial portraits, reliefs, vases and gems, coins. There are really so many interesting things. But as I was telling you, if they were displayed a little better, they would be even more interesting. Instead, we see people who were a little bored.
There are also Egyptian and Assyro-Babylonian antiquities and also many collections that come from the collections made by the aristocrats of the Republic of Venice.
I am always curious, however I spent a few hours inside this museum and fortunately there was the possibility of downloading an audio guide through a QR Code and therefore I understood a little about what was contained inside the museum, however the price to visit it would be €8 while from 18 to 25 years old it costs only €2.
in the end let's say it was a good experience, I shared with you some photos that I took during the visit, I hope they are interesting, see you on my next travel experience.
