There is a strange asymmetry between students and teachers.
Students learn by working. So there is a great deal of pressure for students to do original research.
A good teacher presents the students with the highest quality materials in a given course of study. In the quest to find the highest quality materials, good teachers seek out the best materials and present these materials to the student.
The strange asymmetry is that, while teachers punish students for copying and pasting research, they engage in the practice on a routine basis.
There is nothing wrong with this practice. Science advances when scholars develop a body of knowledge and slowly advance it.
This means that actual real scientists spend most of their time rehashing and exploring a common body of knowledge and that most of the work done by real teachers and scientists would be flagged on HIVE as plagiarism.
There is nothing wrong with this. Real science depends on people being able to replicate results. The science that has been improving life on this planet depends on people copying and pasting ideas.
I find it amusing that publishing standards of HIVE are so strict that the platform would not allow real science to take place.
The STEM Community
The STEM tribe was created to support science based education on HIVE. STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. The acronym came into use in the 1990s as an effort to promote the study of hard sciences in schools.
I was hoping that the STEM community would draw quality educators into HIVE and that we would see teachers sharing their curriculums in this space.
While we have seen a few educators toy with the tribe over the years, we really haven't seen the tribe bloom as a cutting edge education tool. This dream has failed to materialize.
The STEM Token
The account uses it precious HIVE rewards to buy and burn tokens on HIVE-Engine. After I publish this post I will perform a ceremonial buring of STEM.
I've been wanting to do a burn of #STEM tokens for the last year. I am scared to do so because the STEM community discourages users from discussing cryptocurrency.
By discussing the mathematics of burning STEM, I am violating the standards of the community. I hope that this post does not get me banned from the tribe. The muted user list is quite extensive. My account holds 79,092 STEM. It is currently in position 5 on the STEM richlist. I really don't want to be muted.
But lets violated the community standards and explore the token.
TribalDex tells me that there are 4,075,457 STEM. The current ASK is 0.000151 HIVE. HIVE currently trades at $0.5961.
4075457 * 0.000151 * 0.05961 = $36.68
Egads, the current marcap of STEM is just $36.68.
The STEM marcap is less than the price of a textbook!!!!
The tribal account had an aggressive burning policy. TribalDex shows that the tribe has burned 5,612,752 STEM to date. The tribe has burned more than the current STEM supply. The aggressive burn policy helped prop up the price for several years. The price collapseds after cancelling the policy.
Burning did not provide the long term support for the token that people were hoping to see.
The STEM tribe supports the StemGeeks.net website which is a standard HE interface for HIVE. Sadly the interface often times out.
I believe the tribe is still using the standard scot bot system to distribute rewards.
I generated the #meme of a mad scientist in a burning lab with Night Cafe. I typed out this post by hand so I hope that it qualifies for the #POB and #VYB rewards.
I will now burn a pile of about 2,500 STEM while hoping that I don't get muted. I will use the earnings from this post to buy and burn HE coins including STEM.
