Polysorbate 80 causes Premature Ovarian Failure (POF)
The Amphastar brand of Vitamin K contains 10 mg of Polysorbate 80. This is 200X the amount of Polysorbate 80 that is in the Gardasil (HPV) Vaccine that contains 50 mcg.
In January 2016, The American College of Pediatricians issued a statement about Polysorbate 80 in the HPV vaccine and the increased risk of POF.

Benzyl Alcohol
Hospira brand of Vitamin K contains 9 mg. benzyl alcohol.
Benzyl Alcohol is known to sometimes cause Gasping Baby Syndrome which can be fatal. Here is an article that talks about babies that died from Benzyl Alcohol back in the '70's.
Benzyl alcohol can also damage the brain.
Jaundice within two days of birth is considered common occurring in 30-50% of babies. How much of this is because of the liver damage caused by the Benzyl Alcohol?
I know that none of my three children had any degree of jaundice, and they did not receive the Vitamin K injection.
Propylene Glycol

Propylene Glycol is the main ingredient in anti-freeze.
At the time that I was considering Vitamin K shots for my babies, I was only aware of this ingredient in the shot, and did not know about the Polysorbate 80 or the Benzyl Alcohol.
Injecting Propylene Glycol directly into my baby while at the same time I had been trying to avoid using it in shampoos, skin care and food products, did not make one drop of sense to me.

Doctors may tell you that there is a "Preservative-Free" Vitamin K Injection. They are talking about "Amphastar". What the doctor is NOT telling you is that Amphastar has 10 milligrams of Polysorbate 80, and also contains Propylene Glycol.
"Preservative-Free" is NOT SAFE!
The Oral Vitamin K is a much better option than the injectable Vitamin K. However it may be difficult to acquire it and to convince your physician or midwife to use it instead.
A baby is born with a low level of Vitamin K for a reason. They slowly build it up until it reaches full amounts at Day-8. Who are we to think that we know better than the way humans were designed to survive? Yes, there will always be rare emergency situations, but should we routinely over-ride what has worked for humanity for thousands of years?
The really crazy thing is that the chances of needing a Vitamin K injection to prevent rare cases of fatal bleeding after the birth, would GREATLY diminish if only the medical world would stop another harmful practice -- EARLY CORD CUTTING!
As usual, they are trying to solve another problem that they are largely responsible for creating in the first place!
