Chapter 36: Forgiveness
Two days later in the West Camp. Octavius, Freddy, Alex, Phillip, Cynthia, RJ, Walter, and Revals were eating dinner in Revals’ former tent.
Walter was staring angrily at Phillip, who was eating a slice of pizza.
‘Don’t you think it’s time to put past grievances aside and make up,’ said Octavius as he looked at Walter.
‘I demand a sincere apology,’ said Walter angrily as he continued to stare at Phillip.
‘He’s apologised fifteen times since he arrived, friend,’ said Alex, grinning at Walter.
‘I said “sincere apology” not “any apology”,’ said Walter angrily. ‘He’s not sincere. If he was, he’d be eating my special mash and not pizza.’
‘I asked for mash, friend,’ said Phillip. ‘You told me to eat dirt.’
‘Did you? No!’ replied Walter. ‘You grabbed another pizza from your new girlfriend.’
‘Phillip and I have bonded, but we’re not in a relationship,’ chuckled Cynthia nervously.
‘Don’t trust him,’ said Walter as he looked at Cynthia. ‘He’ll change his preferred food group in a heartbeat. Then you’ll never see him again.’
‘Walter, I’m so sorry,’ said Phillip as he looked at Walter with sad eyes. ‘Please forgive me.’
‘That sounded sincere to me,’ said Octavius as he looked at Walter.
‘He’s very cunning,’ said Walter as he stared at Phillip.
‘He’s your dear friend,’ said Octavius. ‘He deserves another chance.’
‘He’s much more than that,’ said Walter, shaking his head. ‘He’s like a little brother to me. I used to force-feed him my wildest creations. Every time he was brutally honest. It was such fun.’
‘He crammed a spicy cream bun in my mouth,’ said Phillip as his eyes widened. ‘I almost choked and died.’
‘That was hilarious,’ said Walter loudly as he pointed at Phillip. ‘Then you threw that all away. You chased after that new pizza truck. Then you took your sweet treats from that monster, Julie.’
‘She was nice to me,’ said Phillip.
‘Nice is fake, you fool,’ said Walter angrily. ‘Love is brutal.’
‘So you love Phillip!’ said RJ, leaning forward. ‘That’s great to hear.’
‘That’s not a revelation, moron!’ shouted Walter. ‘I said he’s like a brother. Who the hell doesn’t love his own brother?!’
Revals began to snigger.
‘Shut up, idiot,’ shouted Walter. ‘Or else you’ll be back with Rico.’
‘Come on, friend,’ said Alex joyfully. ‘Give him a forgiveness hug.’
‘Fine,’ sighed Walter. He walked over to Revals. ‘Come on, stand up, you chubby baldy.’
Revals reluctantly stood up. Walter threw his arms around Revals and said, ‘It’s not your fault you’re a piece of shit.’
'Oh, thank you, Your Imperial Highness,’ replied Revals nervously.
‘You know that he meant Phillip,’ said Octavius, sounding annoyed.
Phillip stood up and walked towards Walter, who continued to squeeze Revals.
‘This guy’s so soft,’ said Walter as he looked at Octavius. ‘I don’t think he has bones.’
Octavius sighed and shook his head.
Walter abruptly let go of Revals. ‘Get the hell away from me; you smell of garlic,’ said Walter angrily. Revals staggered backwards in fear. Then Walter turned to face Phillip, who had his arms held out for a hug. Walter smiled at Phillip and said, ‘I can’t stay mad at you. I love you, brother.’
Walter and Phillip hugged. The others joyfully applauded.
Walter gave Phillip some mash in exchange for a piece of pizza. Walter shoved Cynthia out of the way and then sat next to Phillip. Cynthia moved along and sat next to Alex. All of them spent the next twenty minutes eating and chatting.
Suddenly loud horns started to blare out.
‘Maybe the technicians have a surprise performance for us, friends,’ said Freddy joyfully.
‘This doesn’t sound good,’ said Octavius, shaking his head.
Scott poked his head into the tent. ‘There are millions of enforcers heading our way, friends,’ he said. ‘Should we invite them in?’
‘No, no,’ sighed Octavius as he got up. ‘I’ll deal with them.’
‘I’m their prince,’ chuckled Walter as he stood up. ‘I’ll use my royal authority to give them the boot.’
‘They see me as one of them,’ said Revals as he stood up. ‘I’ll sort everything out.’
‘No, you’ll wait here,’ said Octavius angrily as he looked at Revals.
Revals smiled and slowly sat down. Freddy waved his index finger at him.
Walter and Scott climbed to the top of the gate tower. Octavius squeezed in behind them. The dozen Sentray formed a line in front of the gate. They were facing the enforcers and their vehicles. There were tens, possibly hundreds, of thousands of enforcers and vehicles. Captain Cecil was standing in the hatch of a military vehicle, which was about ten rows back from their front vehicles. He was holding a megaphone.
‘We have come to liberate this camp and take back the prince that you savagely kidnapped,’ shouted Cecil through the megaphone.
‘This camp has already been liberated,’ shouted Octavius. ‘We liberated it from you.’
‘I was rescued from my kidnapper over a week ago, you shithead!’ shouted Walter.
‘We understand, Your Imperial Highness,’ shouted Cecil. ‘You’ll be freed tonight, I promise.’
‘This guy’s a moron,’ said Walter as he tilted his head back to look at Octavius.
‘If you and your monsters leave now, we will not attack,’ shouted Cecil. ‘Choose to resist and we will attack with full force.’
‘My Sentray will stop you,’ shouted Octavius.
‘They are ferocious,’ remarked Cecil. ‘I really don’t want to fight them, but twelve Sentray can’t stop a hundred thousand heavily armed enforcers with advanced vehicles and technology.’
‘I’ll tear you a new one, shithead!’ shouted Walter angrily.
‘Give us a moment, please,’ said Octavius. ‘I need to consult our team members.’
‘You have ten minutes,’ shouted Cecil.
Octavius dropped to the ground, and both Scott and Walter climbed down from the tower. Freddy, Alex, RJ, Phillip, and Cynthia joined them.
‘This is not good,’ said Octavius. ‘We don’t have a chance against those numbers.’
‘Then we go down in a blaze of glory,’ said Walter as he raised his fist enthusiastically.
‘We should offer them our friendship,’ said Alex, nodding.
‘They want to kill us all,’ said RJ as his eyes began to dart. ‘I say we surrender.’
‘You’re pathetic,’ said Walter angrily as he looked at RJ.
‘They will kill us all,’ said Octavius in a sad tone. ‘It is better we hand over the camp to them.’
‘After all this, you’re just going to abandon us,’ said Walter as sadness came over his face.
‘Never!’ said Octavius firmly. ‘I want to give us our best chances. That time is not now.’
‘Please stay,’ sobbed Freddy. ‘They’re so cruel to us.’
‘I’m so sorry,’ said Octavius as he put his arms around Freddy. ‘I swear I’ll do everything I can to free you.’
Alex, Phillip, and Scott joined in to form a group hug. Walter watched angrily.
‘You have one minute left,’ shouted Cecil.
‘I have to speak to them now,’ said Octavius as he let go of Freddy.
The technicians opened the main gate. Octavius walked through it.
‘Have you made the right decision?’ shouted Cecil.
‘My Sentray and I are leaving,’ said Octavius as Ducky walked over to him.
‘That’s wonderful news,’ replied Cecil in an upbeat tone.
‘Give us ten minutes and we’ll be gone,’ continued Octavius.
‘Not a minute longer or we might not be so nice,’ chuckled Cecil.
Octavius turned to speak with the others.
Freddy was still sobbing. Phillip and Cynthia were comforting him. Alex and Scott seemed relaxed. RJ was still panicked, and Walter looked furious.
‘I want you all to know this is not over,’ said Octavius as his eyes moved between all of them.
‘Don’t forget,’ said Walter as he walked over to Octavius. ‘Don’t forget your seaweed.’ Walter handed Octavius a handful of vials of the seaweed cure.’
‘Thank you, friend,’ said Octavius, nodding.
Walter threw his arms around Octavius. The others came over and hugged him.
Octavius kissed each one of them on the top of the head, and then he walked back through the main gate. Octavius climbed up onto Ducky. The enforcers created a path for him and the Sentray to pass. Octavius could see for himself their enormous numbers. Once he was out of sight of the enforcers, Volo hovered in front of him.
‘Did you see all of that?’ asked Octavius.
Volo nodded.
‘I need you to keep an eye on the camp,’ said Octavius. ‘I’ll be at the south coast.’
Volo nodded again and then flew off in the direction of the West Camp.
Captain Cecil entered Revals’ tent. Revals was sitting proudly in his old chair. Walter was standing to his left.
‘We did it!’ said Revals in delight. ‘The camp is ours again.’
‘Your pathetic cry for help doesn’t warrant you any credit,’ said Cecil firmly.
‘What the hell is he talking about?’ shouted Walter at Revals.
Revals began to chuckle.
‘You lied about calling your mother, you piece of shit,’ shouted Walter.
‘I outsmarted you,’ chuckled Revals as he stood up.
‘That’s nothing to boast about,’ replied Walter angrily. ‘Any idiot can do that.’
‘That level of disrespect is unacceptable,’ said Cecil angrily as he pulled out his gun and pointed it at Revals. ‘Would you like me to finish him, Your Imperial Highness?’
‘Please no, I’m so sorry,’ pleaded Revals.
Walter’s eyes bulged as he looked backwards and forwards between Revals and Cecil.
Cecil cocked his gun, and Revals began to cry.
‘No, not today,’ said Walter, sounding a little alarmed.
‘No problem, Your Imperial Highness,’ chuckled Cecil. He turned and left the tent. Revals slumped awkwardly onto his desk while sobbing slightly.
‘You don’t look well,’ said Walter as he patted Revals on the hand. ‘Would you like a slice of upside-down cake?’
‘Thank you, you’re very nice,’ stuttered Revals as he glanced up at Walter.
‘Haha,’ chuckled Walter. ‘There’s a reason nobody’s eaten yet.’
