Zed 1.0!
Go check it out!
I've tried Zed many times, but every time there was something missing.
Sometimes Cmd + Click (Go to Definition) was not working, even in React, which they have official support for.
And more frustrating, the spacebar stopped working. After days of looking for a solution online, I gave up. It didn’t matter how much I wanted Zed to have not a single issue—it was just not there yet.
But I loved every part that was already done:
- The 1sec it takes to open
- The snappy way I can switch from one file to another
- Having suggestions without a "Loading" text on the inline popup
That made me keep it, even though I did not use it for programming. I even replaced it as the default text editor for opening simple .txt files because it almost always opened them faster than the system one (I used Linux and now macOS).
And now I cannot wait to try the 1.0 release.
Often I find myself with three Cursor, Windsurf, and/or VSCode windows open on different folders. When I add at least two browsers, some backend processes, and an external agentic coding app, it really helps to use the most performant and less memory-consuming apps.
Zed must be it.
