Greetings to everyone in the Lifestyle community. Today I’m joining you here to share a new day in my life with you. It’s been a while since I last posted, and the truth is, I’ve been really busy. At the same time, several things happened, like a new flu virus that hit the school. I think both students and teachers have been affected. Aside from that, some interesting and very good things have happened. However, I’ll share those stories over the course of the week and the coming days. Today I want to tell you about our class at the start of this week.
Last week I had planned to do origami with the children so they could bring their moms a beautiful gift, but classes were canceled. So since we couldn’t do it the week before, we did it this Monday in the classroom. We made a tulip flower. You need two pieces of paper (one for the flower and one for the stem), and the children were quite focused, trying to figure out how to fold the paper from one side to the other... and when they finished, they were able to decorate it however they wanted. To be honest, I only know a few origami designs, and this activity was in honor of my mom, who is an expert at making all kinds of origami figures. So I couldn’t have honored my mom on Mother’s Day in a better way than this. The children enjoyed the origami.
Saludos a todos en la comunidad de Lifestyle. El día de hoy me uno por acá para compartir con ustedes un nuevo día en mi vida. Ya tenía tiempo que no publicaba y es que estaba realmente bastante ocupada. Al mismo tiempo sucedieron varias cosas como un nuevo virus de gripe que llegó al colegio. Creo que tanto estudiantes como docentes nos hemos visto afectados. Así que fuera de ello han sucedido cosas interesantes, muy buenas. Sin embargo las iré contando en el transcurso de la semana y los días. Hoy les quiero contar cómo fue nuestra clase de este inicio de semana.
La semana pasada tenía planeado hacer origami con los niños con motivo de que pudieran llevar a sus mamás un bello regalo, pero se cancelaron las clases. Así que como no pudimos hacerlo en la semana anterior, lo hicimos este lunes en el aula. Se hizo una flor de tulipán. Se necesitan dos piezas de papel (uno para la flor y otro para el tallo) y los niños estaban bastante concentrados, tratando de descifrar cómo mover un pliegue de un lado al otro... y cuando terminaron, pudieron decorarlo a su manera. Siendo sincera yo sólo conozco algunas piezas de origami y esta actividad fue en honor a mi mamá, quién sí es una experta haciendo toda clase de figuras en origami. Así que yo no podía honrar a mi mamá en el día de la madre de una mejor manera que esta. Los niños disfrutaron del origami.
However, another activity we had planned was making an agamograph, a technique that creates a sense of movement by using two images. This ties in with the fact that this week’s theme is Kinetic Art. Specifically, Venezuelan art. Since we’re in Bolívar State, we have two great exponents: Jesús Soto and Alejandro Otero. So I prepared a “Penetrable” for the children, to recreate Jesús Soto’s Penetrables. It seems like a simple idea, but the truth is that it achieves the goal of immersion, interaction, and experiencing the artwork firsthand. Plus, the kids really enjoyed it—even the older ones, who are usually a bit more hesitant to try something like this. A big surprise is coming up this week, so I’ll tell you all about it soon. Sin embargo, otra de las actividades que se tenían previstas eran realizar el agamógrafo, una técnica que crea un efecto de movimiento por medio del uso de dos imágenes. Eso en relación a que justamente esta semana tenemos el tema de el Arte Cinético. En específico el arte venezolano. Como estamos en el Estado Bolívar, tenemos dos grandes exponentes que son Jesús Soto y Alejandro Otero. Así que prepare para los niños un Penetrable, para recrear los penetrables de Jesús Soto. Parece una idea inocente, pero lo cierto es que cumple con el objetivo de inmersión, interacción y experiencia de vivir la obra de arte. Y además, los niños lo disfrutaron. Incluso los más grandes quienes suelen estar un poco más recelosos a hacer algo así. Esta semana se viene una gran sorpresa así que pronto les cuento.
