My stay in the Northern Nigeria has exposed me to the valuable part of their culture when it comes to food.
Today I had the opportunity to go with a friend who took me to where we had Fura De Nunu. Sounds strange huh?
My friend and I, doing justice to the said Fura and Nunu with the Fulani Woman sitting beside us
That is one of the most sweetest thing I have tasted throughout my stay in the north. According to what they say, it is a high content of as it is the fresh natural milk extract from cows. While I was sipping this stuff, I wished the plate never got empty. The taste is something I can't fathom, though it might not look very attractive to the eyes, but it always accepted by my mouth and welcomed in my stomach. Don't worry, in the next two weeks, you will see changes in my skin color.
Fura De Nunu is my new found love
Well prepared Fura De Nunu
Description
FURA: Fura is made of millet and guinea corn, it is dark brown in color and according to what they say, it is highly nutritious. It is the main thickener of the Fura de nunu drink.
NUNU: This is the fresh natural extract from cows. Its the milk that make up the whole delicious mixture. I believe this should be the protein containing element.
Benefits of taking Fura De Nunu
According to the local inhabitants of the settlement where I stay, Fura de nunu is supposed to be taken on daily basis because:
- It has high protein content which helps in building/replacing worn and dead cells in the body.
- Daily intake of Fura de nunu makes you look young and help in nourishing the skin, I think this is also as a result of its high protein content.
- Its also contains calcium which is one of the main element for strong healthy teeth and bones.
