The year 2021 when I planned my projects for the coming year I proposed to have a garden, something that I would do gradually but steadily. I always had many plants, I moved to a cooler area, with a small patio and some fruit trees but nothing ornamental, so because I wanted to have plants I started to bring small sprouts or cuttings from Apure to Turmero.

The garden is not yet as I want it, but I already have more than twenty different plants, some of them with flowers, one of them is Kalanchoe blossfediana, also called Escarlata, I knew it years ago as Volcán, but people give different names to the plants.

El año 2021 al plantear mis proyectos para el año venidero me propuse tener un jardín, algo que haría paulatinamente pero con constancia. Siempre tuve muchas plantas, me mudé a un área más fresca, con un patio pequeño y algunos árboles frutales pero nada ornamental, por eso, porque quería tener plantas comencé a traer pequeños brotes o estacas de Apure a Turmero.

Aún no está el jardín como lo quiero, pero ya tengo más de veinte plantas distintas, algunas pocas con flores, una de ella la Kalanchoe blossfediana, también llamada Escarlata, la conocí hace años como Volcán, pero la gente pone diversos nombres a las plantas.

Kalanchoe blossfediana is the name by which you can look it up on the internet and learn more about it. I bought the first one in a nursery, I liked it so much that later I wanted to have other colors: white, yellow, pink, orange, but none of these prospered, apparently it is more delicate or in the nurseries they sold false plants of them that had not yet stuck well and did not have roots.

I managed to multiply the red one successfully and I brought back a twig in January 2022, it was small.

Kalanchoe blossfediana es el nombre científico con el cual se le puede buscar en internet y conocer más de ellas. La primera de ella la compré en un vivero, me gustó tanto que luego quise tener otros colores: blanca, amarilla, rosada, anaranjada, pero ninguna de estas prosperó, al parecer es más delicada o en los viveros vendían falsas plantas de ellas que aun no habían pegado bien y no tenían raíces.

Logré multiplicar la roja con acierto y me traje una ramita el mes de enero del 2022, era pequeña.

Once I went to spend a few days in Apure, when I came back I saw the plant quite scrawny, so I separated it into two small plants and replanted them. From then on I have been attentive to its evolution, both grew with very strong leaves and in the middle of last November I observed that it was putting out what looked like it was going to be flowers.

Una vez que fui a pasar unos días a Apure, cuando regresé vi la planta bastante escuálida, entonces la separé en dos plantitas y las resembré. A partir de ahí he estado atenta a su evolución, ambas crecieron con hojas muy fuertes y a mediados del mes de noviembre pasado observé que estaba sacando lo que parecían iban a ser flores.

I got excited because this is a flower that lasts quite a long time, we are already in January and it is still opening its small flowers, I estimate that in March it will still be in bloom; it is a beauty, easy to take care of, mainly the red one, the others are more delicate.

Me emocioné porque esa es una flor que dura bastante tiempo, ya estamos en enero y aún está abriendo sus pequeñas flores, estimo que aún en marzo estará florecida; es una belleza, fácil de cuidar, principalmente la roja, las otras son más delicadas.

When it gets a lot of sun the leaf turns purple and bends a little, in the patio where I have it the sun hits it for a while in the morning, the climate is fresh and I think that this has favored it because it is really beautiful.

Cuando lleva mucho sol la hoja se pone morada y se dobla un poco, en el patio donde la tengo le pega sol un rato en la mañana nada más, el clima es fresco y pienso que eso le ha favorecido porque está realmente hermosa.

When the flowering period is over I will take advantage of taking some cuttings to reproduce new plants, in December of this year I will be able to have new flowering plants and I will also be able to give them as gifts to my friends.

Cuando pase el período de floración aprovecharé de sacar unos esquejes para reproducir nuevas plantas, en diciembre de este año podré tener nuevas plantas florecidas y además podré regalar a mis amistades.
