Growing up we're always told to listen to our elders and seek advice and approval from our peers and for most of us the people we surrounded ourselves via family and friends are not successful and don't have it figured out so why do we seek approval and affirmation from a flawed source of information?
Ever heard the phrase misery loves company? Well, it's true, and the fact is most people are pretty miserable and to make themselves feel better they are finding ways to oppress others to make them feel better about their situation. Breaking the cycle is hard, trust me, I've been trying all my life, going against the tide and preconceived notions aren't easy.
Whenever you push against something with force, there will be an equal amount of resistance, and one will have to give. In most cases, you'll give up and conform because we think the feeling of being uncomfortable is wrong.
Comfort is a crutch, and it's not to our benefit to be in a comfort zone, in fact, it is to your detriment.

Poor programming
We all have something we're poor in or we would all be truly satisfied and content with what we're doing as an individual. We're poor financially, poor in spirit, poor in mind and poor in the body. The reason you are is poor in these aspects is because you are designed to be from your pre-programming.
When you're a child, and your mind is still in its formative stages, you're being programmed by your parents and those around you. They set up the boundaries and constrict you from certain things; they project their idea of the world and their insecurities onto you and its no fault of your own.
You were born with poor programming. When you reach adulthood, you've had so much indoctrination that it's almost impossible to break and only those who have an unrelenting feeling that this is wrong will be the ones to persue the other side and cut ties with the lessons they've learned and the conformity of society.
Poor programming is a breeding ground for insanity
These poor habits that leave you lacking are often repeated over and over and you are expecting different results. You take advice and model yourself on the people around you who have not archived what you want to achieve and this is why you fail.
Having the right mentors around you can make all the difference as you may not need to listen to them but you learn to mimic them and in that, you set yourself up for success in certain aspects where the mentor was successful.

Reprogramming through repetition
If you're like many of us and you don't have a mentor to guide you and to mimic from you need to start a lonely road to break free from the dogma of the world around you. Distance yourself from those who you don't want to mimic and start to engage with those that you do. If you cannot, you need to engage with those who produce works that you would like to mimic, watch videos, read books, engage in debate online and reach out to those who have the expertise you yearn for and would like to have.
Then repeat this process each day until it becomes second nature to you. The programming is routed deep but it's not impossible to re-write with time and conscious and consistent effort.
