Sup SteemSquad
So the world cup has kicked off and many steemians are getting in on the action with prediction score games, reviews of the games, opinions of who they think will win it and who they are supporting for the tournament and it's really livened up my feed which has been pretty slow as of late.
I've been going through tons of World cup content on the site and I didn't see much love for stand out players for each game and I thought it would be a cool series of posts to run with for the next month.
This is my second post in the series. If you'd like to check out the previous ones I'll keep listing them here:
- 2 World Cup Players of the round: Group C & D - Match Day 1

Belgium vs Tunisia
Outstanding performance from the big man up top Romelu Lukaku while he may have been criticised in the previous game even though he also scored 2 goals this week he stepped up once again to grab a brace and put his country int he driving seat. Two well-taken goals one low drive with the left and a deft chip with the right was enough to seal him the man of the match for me. His overall play was good, he muscled the Tunisian defence brought the midfield into play and his off the ball running and timing of runs was great.
South Korea vs Mexico
Hirving Lozano and Carlos Vela were excellent once again with the fluid Mexican attack craving through the South Koreans, but I have to give the man of the match award to Chicharito. Javier Hernandez was a threat throughout and became the first Mexico player to score 50 international goals

Germany vs Sweden
While Germany narrowly escaped with the win I have to give the man of the match award to Copenhagen goalkeeper Robin Olsen impressed for Sweden but couldn't add to five consecutive international clean sheets on his 20th appearance for his country. He was an absolute brick wall keeping Germany out for most of the game and had plenty to do with 18 shots at his goal with 6 on target.
Hounorable mention
I have to also mention the tireless work rate of Ola Toivonen pushed and bullied the German centre-backs and was well rewarded with a stunning lob to set up a dramatic match.
Have your say
So there you have it, the stand out players from the last 3 games. Two Man United Strikers (one current and one former) coming up tops this week for their countries so no real surprise there. But in Olsen, we were really given a show right up until the last minute when he was beaten by a rasping free-kick from Kroos
Who do you think was your stand out player in matchday 1 so far? Would love to hear your feedback as matches start coming thick and fast. So drop me a comment or a link to your review of world cup stand out players
