Greetings to you, the great steemians. credit
This is the scene 2 of my post called: “putting the wrong words right” where we learnt a lots of those words, phrase that we think is right but actually wrong. Today I have to narrate and explain some of the new ones in brief. Here they are 👇
⏩Dupe (as a noun): Is refer to the person who has been tricked or cheated, and not the other way round.
⏩Express (noun): This is not the same as an 'expressway' which is a road. You can send parcel by 'Express' to somebody.
⏩Far-fetched (adjective): This does not mean 'out of reach' or 'difficulty to get'. It means 'very difficult to believe'. E.g. That story of yours is far-fetched.
⏩Golden handshake (noun): This does not mean a handshake with very important personality but a large sum of money given to somebody when they leave a job, or to persuade them to leave their job
⏩The working class (noun): This does not often refer to the supposed corporately dressed office worker, but the social class whose members do not have much money or power, in fact labourers.
⏩Pour over: This is pore over not pour over, because if you pour over something it restricts to get wet. While poring means to examine something closely.
⏩Escaped goat: This should be 'Scapegoat' meaning someone who is blamed for other people's problems that may or may not be guilty. Unless the person wanted to be blamed is not a human but a fact.
⏩Anyways and Towards: Did you know that neither any of this word has 's' at the end of it.
⏩One in the same: This should be 'one and the same'. Meaning that two things that could be separated are actually the same thing. But 'one in the same' would mean something was inside another.
