The most aggressive and emotionally driven form of love is the Eros love (the love existing between a man and a woman). In a way, Eros love is a reflection of how real love (agape) should behave as well. People in love would do anything for their object of affection. They could never think of harming their lovers; they would never want to hurt them. They love them. How could they habour evil thoughts toward their spouses or lovers? After all, all they want is see the other person happy.
Unfortunately, this type of love is easy. It takes no real effort to fall in love and to act it out. Eros love is purely driven by our emotions. In order words, it's like we are "forced" or "compelled" to love. The reason why agape love is the true test of real love is because it is purely a conscious decision: You do it of your own will, not because you feel like it. And trust me, you most likely will never feel like it.
They say Eros love is blind but with agape love, you're more than a prophet. You can see so clearly into the faults of others, what irritates you and offends you. It's hard to be positive when the people around you are so negative. It's hard to smile and overlook their faults when they keep on repeating them. It's hard to think goodwill of others when they treat you rudely, harshly, without any respect. It's hard.
However, we've not been called to live like children of this world but as children of the Almighty God. And as His children, we meet evil with good. We love without condition. We bless even when others persecute us. We refuse to take revenge. We are continuously filled with pure thoughts towards our neighbour. And we live the life of our Lord Jesus Christ.
True love is difficult, but it is the real test whether you are follower of Christ or a lover of self. Christ cannot be corrupted with evil, so let your love be pure, sincere and undefiled for love thinks no evil.
