➡️ Introduction
Twenty-days ago, I made a very difficult decision, that is to leave Steemit and start my journey here in Hive. It was hard because it was where I started and I was slowly gaining attention in that platform through my recent activities like powering up and engaging largely to communities that I joined. But still I chose to leave Steemit and start new here, so I did a complete powerdown and stopped from posting there.
Now that I am here, I need to do some baby-steps all over again in hopes to grow my account, learn and earn more, and maybe do more in Hive in the future like having some roles in the different communities and becoming an inspiration to other people. So that is why I need to equip myself with the basics to understand fully how Hive works - including the policies, rules and important guidelines that need to be considered and followed.
Fortunately, Hive designs programs to help and assist new Hivers through Onboarding Webinars. This is a good way to help newbies like me to get to know Hive more so that we can perform activities in Hive that are aligned to its rules and guidelines.
This is already my second attendance to an onboarding webinar and I was really hoping I would win another 5 Hive in raffle because I got lucky in the last webinar which was hosted by and
. But, the learnings I gained from last nights webinar was my greatest takeaway. And that I would share in this post...
💻 Webinar Proper
The onboarding webinar last night, November 20,2021 at 7:00 PM, was hosted by , a good friend since 2018 because of the Writer's Guild Club that was formed before headed by her and
. She waited for 10 minutes to give ample time to other attendees to join in the google meet. She enthusiastically started the webinar by introducing herself and showing her thick Hive wallet which is not to boast but to inspire the newbies and those potential Hivers, like Geraldine my invite for that webinar, to start blogging in Hive. She also jokingly shared that the webinar is not a networking scam. 😄
Then she made a very interesting segment where she asked questions to the attendees, and if we agree to these we will respond, "Hell Yeah!". That segment was a good motivation to break the ice before the serious topics will be shared.

Topic 1: The PeakD Interface
The first topic was discussed by where she focused on discussing the interface and the important tabs and icons in PeakD. She said that she has been using PeakD since March 2021 until now because she likes its functionality and style. She then discussed some important tabs in this interface, such as:
- Communities Tab - In this tab you can explore the different communities in Hive. She said that communities are created to make Hive more organized. So, you need to post your blogs or contents appropriately in these communities. For example, if you will post about your travel you have to post it on "Haveyoubeenhere Community."
- Profile Tab - In this tab you will be directed to your profile where you can see new tabs like "Blogs", "All Posts", "Portfolio", and others.
- Blog Tab - She also explained some important information about a blog. She clicked one of her recent blogs and explained the representations of some icons. The "heart icon" is called "vote" wherein each vote corresponds to a specific value depending on the Hive Power and the percentage of vote given to a post by a Hiver, the person who votes in a blog/post is called a curator. The accumulated value of votes will be reflected also in the blog. She further discussed it by showing the entirety of her blog. She also mentioned that although it is not required, it is encouraged that your blog should have at least 300 words and must contain photos that are related to your content. She also emphasized that the content should not be copy pasted from other people's work or must not be plagiarized.
Her talk answered the most frequently asked questions about why it is nice to use PeakD. It was very informative and comprehensive!

Topic 2: How to Create a Post/Blog
The second topic was facilitated by . She discussed how to create a post on PeakD. She did this very clearly so I am certain that the newbies were able to follow and grasp well on her demonstration.
First, she clicked the "Pencil Icon" located on the topmost bar of the PeakD Interface and so the "Write a new post in My Blog" appeared on the screen. She said that the first thing that a Hiver should do is to select a community where your blog will be posted. She reiterated that it is very important to post it on the suitable community. She also mentioned to tick on the "Post to my Blog" option so that it will also appear in our "Blog Tab".
She then clicked the three dots so that the drafts and the preview of the blog would be seen side by side. This is important because we need to also check how our post would look like when we hit publish after finishing and finalizing our post. She said that it is very important to make a very eye-catching title so that many people will be interested on our blog or post. Then, she wrote a sample title for demonstration purposes. After that, she quickly discussed the different icons on the "compose table". She clicked the "image icon" and uploaded an image from her device. She continued by copy pasting a paragraph from her previous blog for demonstration purposes again. She told us also that we can make our blogs more appealing by using HTML codes or markdowns such as using justify, headings and others. She also mentioned about a comprehensive blog about markdowns created by . Kim, who was one of the participants, immediately shared a link to this particular post/blog.
She proceeded by making appropriate tags for her post and telling us how important it is to have this right. She introduced the advance setting option but did not discussed it to us. Finally, she shared that we have options to save it as a draft, schedule the post, or immediately publish it to the Hive Blockchain.
Overall, the talk of was very comprehensive and informative. Although, I know some of these already, I was still amazed by her talk.

Topic 3: Hive Rewards
The third topic was discussed by . He clearly discussed about how Hive Rewards work. He shared a very useful diagram to aid his discussion.
He said that the total Hive Rewards will be divided mainly by two; 50% will go to the curators, or the people who voted on a blog, and the other 50% will go to the author. Then, this 50% of the author's reward will be split to two again; so the 25% of the rewards will be automatically converted to Hive Power which is very important to perform activities on Hive like posting, commenting, replying, upvoting, reblogging and others, the other 25% will be converted to HBD or Hive Backed Dollars which can be transferred anytime and can be converted to cash/fiat.
His talk was relatively short and brief but it was very concise and clear. So, I can say that it was clearly understood by the participants especially by the newbies.

Q & A
After the three successful talks from ,
, and
, they entertained questions from the participants. I will try to remember the specific questions and the answers from the speakers and
. Please correct me if I have it stated wrongly.
- How many posts a day?
answered that it is suggested to post only once or every other day.
- What are the instances that the value of votes will decrease?
answered that it could be because of the current value of Hive in the market or people downvoted your post.
added that the downvotes should not be taken personally, because it is a matter of personal preference of the person. It is a right of all people in Hive to choose what to upvote and what to downvote.
- How to start playing and earning in Splinterlands?
answered that you need at least 10 dollars to buy a "spellbook" (I am not sure of this though). He also mentioned that Splinterlands is a booming NFT Game in the Philippines like Axie. He has been playing this since 2018 but he said his "big earnings" were only notable this year.
- Why PeakD and not Hive.Blog?
said that he uses PeakD because he likes its interface, however he also visits Hive.Blog to check trending topics to be updated with the current news in Hive. He also shared that aside from PeakD, there are also others like ecency and travelfeed.
There were still a lot of questions asked and answered during this onboarding webinar but I no longer can remember them all. Maybe they are just stored directly in a special area of my brain. 😄

Raffle Draw
The most exciting part was the Raffle Draw where four winners will be given 5 Hive as soon as they have created an account on Hive and posted their introduction posts. So, "hell yeah" I was not included in this raffle draw. So, no screenshots done! 😃
Bonus Topic: #voteme in HivePh Discord
, the admin of HivePH shared about the "#voteme channel" in the HivePH Discord. She demonstrated how to post in this channel to be supported by the HivePh account/community. This is a good one because it will at least give motivation to the users especially the newbies because their posts will be upvoted. She also reminded that the post should not be plagiarized.

Conclusion
I would say that this Onboarding Webinar is really an effective program for new and potential Hivers because they tackle relevant topics and answer essential questions about the platform. As for me, I will continue attending this kind of webinar since I am still very new to this platform and also to give support to my future invites.
Congratulations to all the people behind this successful event and see you for more onboarding webinars and in person if possible!
