Shout out Hive and Hello to all the amazing people here! I HOPE YOU ARE ALL FINE AND HEALTHY WHEREVER YOU ARE RIGHT NOW!
This weekend had been full of excitement because for the first time I was able to attend the Bull or Bear Debate organized by the Bitskwela supported by DICT (Department of Information and Computer Technology), AYALA MALLS, Philippines Airlines, and more in partnership with CoinW, Tekkon, Bitget, and of course the HIVE!
THE TICKET
It was Sir , one of our amazing mentors in the Hive, who informed us about this Bull or Bear: WEB3 Debate which will be happening on July 15, 2023. He sent us the link to get our ticket if we were interested to join. Because I was interested in hearing HIVE in a debate setting, I bought my ticket last June 19 even though I have not consulted my husband yet about it.
At that moment, I commit with certainty for two reasons; first, because I love learning new and more about Hive, Web3, and the like; and second reason is that I want to chill and enjoy a different environment other than school, haha... The ticket was worth Php 250.00 (USD 4.6) and I paid it through G-cash (an online payment method application).
THE MOST AWAITED DAY!
I was full of excitement because my husband permitted me to go and even supported me financially for my travel fare, food, and extra allowance as my pocket money. I left home at 9:00 in the morning because the Grand debate would start at 5:00 in the afternoon. But my husband told me that I should have left earlier because he said I might get stuck in the traffic. I was indeed stuck in the traffic fellas and arrived at my first stop after 4 hours. Yes, you read it right, it's been a 4-hour trip on a public bus! I was just grateful that I chose the air-conditioned one. The Php150.00 (USD 2.8) fare was a little bit more expensive than the ordinary public bus, but it was worth it.
When I arrived at the bus station/ bus stop, I waited for my colleague and her husband because honestly, I didn't know much about the streets and establishments in the city. Finally, we rode a taxi to get to Ayala Malls, Central Bloc!
THE VENUE
We finally arrived at the venue!
When we got inside the activity center, the organizers at the entrance desk scanned our QR code and verified our ticket. After the verification, mingling with old friends and making new friends began!
The crowd amazed me and the venue was jampacked with attendees and participants. I was able to meet ma'am and sir
in person. I also met and shake-handed Sir Tony, sir
, and Sir PJ from DBuzz.
I was able to meet Sir from D.buzz who was one of the debaters representing the HIVE. He was very approachable and well-versed in bringing Hive to everyone who came to their booth.
They were also too generous to hand us Hive T-shirts and D.Buzz Cards. Since the event was about to take place, we opted to sit down and waited for the debate to start.
The activity began as the host of the event stood up on the stage. It started with the singing of the Philippine National Anthem. It was followed by a message from Ma'am Imee of the DICT. Then, Sir Aaron who talked about Cryptocurrency, and Ma'am Raine who shared her experience on the creation of Web3 Cebu.
The partners also gave their Keynote before the main event began. It started with Sir Jeffrey Saenz from Bitget; Sir Jearon Wong from CoinW; Sir Nathan Senn from HIVE; and Sir Crypto Pareh of Tekkon.
Meet The Debaters!
From right to left, Sir Giu Comia, a content creator; Ma'am Ashley Sandoval, a creator/entrepreneur; Sir Donald Lim, Blockchain council of the Philippines; Coach Miranda Miner of Global Miranda Miner Group, Sir Tyrone Bretana of Tier one Alliance; and Sir Nathan Senn of the HIVE & Dbuzz.
It was a friendly debate wherein they gave their stand whether bullish or bearish about the statement given. There were six statements in all. The facts and stands of the debaters were all educational for me as a first-time attendee of this kind of event. The crowd was also given a chance to share their stand on whether they were bearish or bullies in every statement by casting their votes on the link provided thru a QR code. I learned a lot about Web 3, cryptocurrency, and how ready is the Philippines when it comes to these matters.
The organizers (bitskwela) and the debaters!
After the debate, we, the Cebu Hive bloggers, also took the opportunity to have a photo together with the Davao- based Hivers!
Realization...
Learning is indeed a never-ending process. As a teacher, attending this kind of event gives me the opportunity to learn new and more about things beyond my comfort zone. The information I've learned from this debate made me realize that teachers like us must also keep up with facts about the fast-changing advancement such as Web3 so that we could give credible truth rather than misinformation to our learners who are already exposed to the internet. Education about these things is truly the key to making us ready for Web3!
This is why I am very positive about spreading HIVE and trying to invite and participate in onboarding seminars because educating others is also an opportunity to take one step closer to the world of true digital ownership!
That's all for now my friends! See you around. Big hugs and God Bless!
