What happens when you get a small post payout?
Now that all payouts come as HIVE/HP there are times when you get a very small payout. Just yesterday I got a payout of 0.14 Hive. Also, when it comes to distributions from delegation payouts often times I get small drips of Hive. It is nice to see those drips come in but then again, they are often less than a cent.
Of course, sometimes you get Tribe tokens and for tribes you follow that's great. For other ones it is just clutter in your Hive-Engine wallet.
The obvious solution:
The "No think" solution is to just get 100% Curation as HP and power up every bit of HIVE that come into the wallet. That's a great idea but there are three problems.
- Unless you have a large amount of HP your votes will often fall under the dust threshold (being too small to get paid out).
- Unless you curate very regularly you will be missing out on the maximum payment.
- Your money is locked up for 13 weeks while you power down.
For most users staking as HP is an easy but not perfect solution.
The HBD solution.
Of course you can also convert your liquid HIVE into HBD. Stake the HBD and you are all set. Once a month you will get interest, provided you claim it, and its a stable coin so you don't have to watch it go up and down like a yoyo. Still. If you want your money you do have to wait three days to get it and your interest is monthly.
Good but not ideal
Moving to Hive-Engine
I really like the idea of moving coins to Hive-Engine and buying different yield paying tokens. EDSI is one of my favorite because you just hold and earn. Simple. What I don't like about EDSI is that price can be more than its 1:1 PEG depending on demand and I have to pay a percentage to the Hive-Engine to move my Hive there.
Which is why we have the GLD token for this community.
It's benefits?
- It has its own trading bot which doesn't charge a fee to move to Hive-Engine. It trades HIVE (or HBD) directly to GLD. More importantly it also trades it directly back. It has its own website here
Trading funds for the bot/site are limited but you can always exchange GLD 100 for 1 HBD.
Plus it pays regular distributions. True the payment system is currently manual and linked to being active on Hive. However, if you are active its a way to get a stable(ish) coin with an easy transfer system. Just one step. Enter Hive to trade and sign the exchange. No withdrawl from Hive to hive-engine then going to the trade platform
Then when you hold the GLD token the GLS token comes in every week.
The system still has kinks in it.
I will freely admit that the system isn't perfect. GLD pays out in GLS which can only be redeemed (1:1 gls to hive) on Hive-engine. I really need to have the bot do GLS:HIVE conversion without going through Hive engine. Also, I really think the GLD token should pay out in either HBD or GLD. Stable coin for stable coin. Another thing on my to-do list.
That's my routine.
Having a routine when coin comes in just makes everything easier. It keeps you from having coin sitting there doing nothing. It lets you see accumulation of an asset which hopefully grows in value. Overall, I really like the ease of GLD.
One step to buy it.
One step to liquidate it.
No steps to get weekly distributions.
I like easy :D
But I'm always looking for other solutions.
Now I won't say the system is perfect. No system ever is. So... If you have a better way of dealing with small amounts of liquid Hive coming in I would love to hear about it in the comments.
