The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) added a coal production quota of 25 million tons by the end of the year. Additional production is done to boost foreign exchange.
ESDM Minister Ignasius Jonan previously set an additional 100 million ton quota target, but a realistic figure that could be added was only 25 million.
"Approximately 25 million tons will be added to the end of the year," said ESDM Ministry's Director General of Mineral and Coal Bambang Gatot Ariyono in Manado, Thursday (08/23/2018).
Bambang considered the target of 100 million tons was rather impossible to achieve by considering environmental conditions to the capacity of the equipment.
"All considered, environmental carrying capacity," said Bambang.
Previously, this year's coal production target was set at 485 million tons. With an additional production quota of 25 million tons, the target will increase to 510 million tons.
As reported by Kontan, in an effort to increase the division, at the Limited Meeting (Ratas) on Tuesday (8/14), President Joko Widodo gave a number of directions. One of them is by opening up opportunities for additional coal production of 100 million tons.
The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources then issued a Ministerial Decree Number 1924 K / 30 / MEM / 2018 concerning Amendments to the Determination of the Percentage of Minimum Coal Sales for Domestic Interest in 2018.
The decree stipulates that the additional amount of coal production in 2018 is at most 100 million tons for overseas sales.
