Two-thirds of links shared on popular sites like Twitter come from automated accounts, and this is pervasive within the social media ecosystem as a whole. From any side of the political spectrum, from business to government, bots are running the communication. I guess it's inevitable that when one uses a medium constructed by computers to be "social", eventually the process will get sucked into the automation and impersonality defining much of modern tech/media discourse (answering machines, ads, cold calls, junk mail, spam,,,, etc)
