Weather has been amazing lately. Promised myself this winter that when the temps warmed up I would start getting out and moving more.
So far so good.
Last Thursday my cousin drove 2.5 hours and picked me up. He brought me to his house in our home town for a week long visit. I'll be here until Wednesday.
Did I mention my cousin is like a brother to me? He's also a retired Marine. We were in at the same time. He was a couple years behind me, but we both served in a couple of the same places. That bond runs deep.
So far we've had a good time.
Played around with some engines. Went to the farm and tooled around. Ate breakfast with some old Marine friends. The kind of morning where the coffee keeps coming and the stories get better with each cup.
Spent some time visiting with my older brothers too. Chatting it up. Talking about old times and world problems. Solving nothing but enjoying the conversation anyway.
It's always nice to visit with one of my older brothers. He was such a mentor to me growing up. About 14 years older than me. I always looked up to him. Still do.
We plan to take a drive through our old stomping grounds in the country in a couple days. That should be enjoyable. Seeing what's changed. What hasn't. Remembering what used to be there.
Not sure what we have on the agenda for today. But surely it will be something enjoyable.
Sometimes you just need to get out. Be somewhere different. Be around people who've known you your whole life.
No schedule. No pressure. Just time with family and old friends.
This is what I promised myself when I was stuck inside all winter. This is keeping that promise.
Thanks for reading,
Joe
