Can I admit something? I was super excited to check out this big project that Block One has been working on for the last year to see what kind of blockchain based social media dapp they would come up with. Curious to see how it would be set up and accomplished. Would it be similar to Steem... totally different? Could we learn from them?
All the hype was there. Everyone has been waiting for a year. A company with practically unlimited funding and 100 developers working for an entire year... I couldn't even imagine what kick-ass product that kind of focus would produce.
I grabbed my popcorn and snuggled into the couch to watch the announcement. The energy in the crowd looked amazing and the stage itself looked more like an Apple keynote presentation than a blockchain product. Very impressive.
Then?
They basically just announced the name and a one-page website. They didn't even have a product yet. I signed up for the beta test, and it took a week for me to get a generic response basically saying to "stay tuned".
I think Voice has a lot of potential, and the graphics/branding are SUPER good - but really? Why have a massive announcement, just to make an announcement of something else coming up? Why not wait until there was at least a beta version that people could begin testing and signing up for right there?
There was also no launch date or roadmap given that I saw.
So what does this mean for Steem? Yes, they may be a big competitor to our platform at some point - but not today. Don't get me wrong, I think competition is good for any market place and I'm totally planning to check it out - but couldn't believe how lackluster the announcement was.
What are your thoughts on the announcement?
