Over the last few days I've been working on this hedge. Well... former hedge.
3 of the trees were dead anyway but I've decided to remove the whole lot.
It was a monster job... removing them was rather difficult. I've searched online on ways to removed hedges but the top results involved using a 4x4 and a chain... so I had to do it the old fashioned way. Digging, cutting, pulling on the roots until they were out. Then I dug the whole thing out, most of the soil was clay so it took quite a bit of time and effort.
I don't really like hedges, they're kinda useless ... so I'm going to replace them with fruit bushes. The area doesn't get a lot of sun so I'm going to plant something that does well in shade; blue berries, blackberries, currants and gooseberry.
Before doing that I'm going to have to fix the soil or better said rebuild it. I'm going to start with some cardboard that I will inoculate with mushroom spawn, garden giant and oysters should do well helping to compost everything and hopefully give us some mushrooms as well. On top of that I will put the branches of the hedge compacted down, then I'll add a layer of leaves and half composted material and cover the whole thing with some of the excavated soil. This should provide plenty of nutrients to the bushes for the next couple of years and create some lovely, lively soil.
This job required plenty of hydration and today I've had another Trzech Kumpli, the Misty.
Like the name promises, this isn't a clear beer.
It's got a really nice haze, white thick head that holds up. Nice fruity aroma, grapefruit, lemon. Sharp taste, plenty of hops, lovely and refreshing drink. I can't really fault it! I could see myself drinking this for a whole evening.
THanks!
