If you would have only a tiny piece of Earth to leave as a legacy for your children, how would it look like? Would it be green, industrialised, polluted, eco, small, big? Would it matter to you to know that the air that future generations will be breathing will be a direct result of your actions of today? Would you change something in your behaviour towards nature if you'd knew your kid's life depend on it?
I have finished watching this splendour of a movie made by National Geographic. It's about the virgin forest of Mozambique, a forest so secluded that no human foot has ever stepped in. I was watching this and I realised this might not be there 100 years from now.
The amazing diversity of nature, if left alone, never ceases to amaze me. New species were found by scientists here. I smiled when I saw the scientist naming a new butterfly speciae after his daughter Poppy. So cool to have a dad as a scientist to get a butterfly named after you! I was deeply touched. I think it is important to value the work of scientists. To listen to their worries. Poppy will grow and she might not be able to see the butterfly named after her because chances are he might dissapear. Due to climate change.
We need nature. We need virgin forests. We need the insects, the animals, the soil. We should be a guardian of Mother Earth, not ignorant destroyers. We are just a mere transitory presence in here and so are our children. What we will leave behind is what matters. Earth is our landlord. A gentle, generous and welcoming landlord. Do we want to leave the place a mess after we are done or do we want to leave it as we have found it?
The answer to the question is an evidence of our education. Of our knowledge of how Universe works. We will not live long enough to reap what we sow, but our kids/grandkids will. That might make some people think twice before trashing out the place of our beloved landlord. Leave it as you have found it or you kids might not have the place at all!
