Sometimes you find that special someone in the face of a friend and if you love her/him and know for sure that she/he doesn't feel the same way, well there comes a time when you just wanna put some distance between the two of you to avoid the suffering. I wrote this poem back in 2008 when I was going through a similar situation and iy you've been there I know you can feel related to these verses

“We can’t be friends anymore”

I’m standing here in the pourin’ rain
it hurts, my darling, like never before
my heart burns out, I feel the pain
because we can’t be friends anymore.

And all the love I have inside
and the lines I wrote you, which I adore
forever I’ll shut, forever I’ll hide
it’s true, we can’t be friends anymore.

I saw you coming and asked for your name
and I don’t know what I did it for
love is a sad, cruel, painful game
now we can’t be friends anymore.

It was a sweet suffering hearing your voice
telling me “cariño”, calling me “amor”
I’ll shut your silence, wanna hear the noise
saying we can’t be friends anymore.

I don’t think I can forget you one day
and every night I pray the Lord
“rip my heart out God!” I say
I feel we can’t be friends anymore.

I’m gonna take what’s left of me
and leave the broken pieces on the floor
I wish it was just a twisted dream
but it’s real, we can’t be friends anymore.

Walk out of my life! that’s my command
I’ll just go ahead and lock the door
turn around honey, don’t take my hand
you know we can’t be friends anymore.
