I’m a fan of Michigan breweries and Shorts Brewing is one of my favorites. They are one of the largest breweries in the state and do some of the more innovative recipes.
Gemini is one of those interesting brews. This is an apple, mango & blood orange milkshake IPA. Similar to the New England style IPA, this style using
Pectin, rich fruits, oats, and lactose to enrich the beer.
This beer pours thick and creamy with a brilliant yellowish orange color. It’s very reminiscent of orange juice with a short tightly packed head.
The aroma is wonderful with loads of sweet fruit. There’s also a nice hoppy fragrance that cuts through that sweet aroma.
The taste starts like an IPA with some hoppy bitterness then it transitions to a sweet fruit. I can taste the apple, mango and orange. I get a light creamy note as well. This beer is very sweet for an IPA, but that’s not a bad thing.
The mouthfeel is thick and coats the entire mouth. It’s a pleasant beer with a decent amount of carbonation that makes a thicker beer feel light.
I enjoy this beer and it goes to show you that breweries can innovate. It was a good pre-dinner treat that accompanied meal prep well. If you have not had a Shorts beer I highly recommend checking them out.
