In a significant release of internal records from the U.S. Department of Justice, previously undisclosed emails between Elon Musk and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein have drawn widespread attention, showing the technology billionaire appeared to discuss travel plans to Epstein’s private Caribbean island and other interactions despite Musk’s longstanding denials of any substantive connection. If I did not have any more reason to hate the guy this news just broke.
The Justice Department made public more documents from the Epstein Files as part of a legal mandate under the Epstein Files Transparency Act which is designed to increase public disclosure of records tied to Epstein’s extensive network of powerful associates. The Trump administration has failed to release documents on time or in full, but this most recent release includes millions of pages, thousands of images and videos, and dozens of new email chains involving figures from politics, business, and entertainment.
Among these is correspondence between Musk and Epstein from 2012 and 2013, showing the two men engaging in what appears to be cordial communication including messages referencing possible plans for Musk to visit Little Saint James, the Caribbean island Epstein owned and which later became infamous for systematic sex trafficking and abuse. According to the released material,in November 2012 Epstein emailed Musk asking how many people would be traveling to the island by helicopter. Musk replied that it would likely be just himself and his then partner, actress Talulah Riley, and asked “what day/night will be the wildest party on your island?” which is an apparent reference to attending social festivities there. In December 2013, Musk wrote to Epstein that he and Riley planned to be in the British Virgin Islands and St. Barts over the holidays and asked whether there was a good time to visit Epstein’s island. Epstein responded that there was “always space” and discussed logistics, including helicopter transport. The records also include an invitation to Epstein to visit Musk’s SpaceX facility in California, indicating broader engagement. Musk forwarded some of Epstein’s technical inquiries such as power and electrification questions to colleagues, including SolarCity co-founder Peter Rive.
Musk has publicly denied any meaningful association with Epstein and, specifically, denied visiting Epstein’s island. In past statements on social media platform X, he has said Epstein tried to get me to go to his island and I refused, asserting he declined repeated invitations and framing himself as having minimal contact. I just don't buy it...
