Estimates put the price tag at around £7 Billion which is quite a bit of money when the economy is already under pressure.
When Queen Elizabeth the 2nd passed away on Thursday this week it meant that certain things have to be changed. Those that don't or have never lived in the UK may not understand these things or even have considered them. My thoughts went to the obvious straight away like money and stamps, but there are far more items that need replacing.
Firstly the obvious one is the currency as each GBP has the face of the Queen whether it is a note or a coin. With her son King Charles 3rd taking over the throne all the pound notes and coins need to be replaced resulting in a phasing out period will slowly happen. This wont happen overnight as this could take a few years to phase into circulation. Most Governments are used to printing money these days so this is more of a hassle than a cost lol. Reports suggest there are 4.5 billion notes in circulation of the varied amounts.
British passports need to be changed as well and not quite sure if this will just be done when they are expired or will be replaced. Mine is due and need mine redone so it may be good or bad timing depending if there are now massive delays or not. Would be cheaper just to wait and replace them when they are due, but all those passports already printed for new ones will be destroyed and replaced.
Stamps is an odd one as yes people still post letters even though I haven't since I left the UK. Many still use the slow mail system of Royal Mail where the Queens head was depicted on all the stamps. Like the currency we will have Charles replacing her. Not only stamps but also all the postboxes and there are thousands of those that need to be changed with the new Royal Crest chosen by King Charles being added.
Another funny one is the Military's uniforms along with the Police force who have the Queens Crest. This is not going to be a cheap switch over as replacing uniforms will be seriously expensive.
Flags is another strange one as similar to the post boxes they have the Queens Crest embraided or printed on them. Businesses that have the Queens Crest as a Royal house supplier will also have to change. I am sure I have missed some out, but these are all adding up into one hefty bill and £7 Billion may not be enough.
