Blockchain technology is going to become more visible by being integrated in our normal daily lives. VeChain (VET) are making all the right noises with another partnership with another everyday use case. Raimond Freres is a tinned fish company based in Switzerland who have been around since 1949. The tracking information needs to be loaded via transactions onto the blockchain which burns the VTHO (gas token).
By entering a tracking code the customer can see the product is the fish stated on the can. Other information given is the region the fish was caught and the method used along with where the fish was processed. These days food providence is becoming more and more important as we do want to know what we are eating. This will force other canneries to do the same whether they want to or not. I can see all food having a tracking code using the blockchain providing all the information required. Those companies that don't comply will lose customers as it will just become a standard requirement.
Lately I double check certain products like Honey as most of the supplies don't come from a local farm and are actually imported from Brazil or China. The majority is fake honey and the easiest test is to pour a drop into a glass of water. The fake honey dissolves and that is what is being stocked by retailers as it is a sugary substitute. Imagine what else is being doctored all in the name of profit. South Africa had an anchovy fish paste called Pecks which was banned in Europe years ago because it never contained anchovies so God knows what fish was in the paste.
Unfortunately over the last 20 years food has been a big con with misleading labels and this trend I hope will start to bring back real food. Retailers are to blame as the price is key so they can have higher margins and don't care as long as they make a profit. They will be forced to change which has to be a positive for consumers.
Walmart China have been using the food traceability on the VeChian for the last two years which was part of a trial. Earlier this year the traceability platform went live and this will only gather momentum over the next few years. Blockchain has so many benefits to offer and will just become part of everyone's daily life in cases like this whether people know about it or not. Small steps will happen before we get there however, but we do know it is coming.
