I never had a dog. My parents never let us care for one when I was growing up, and I never really had the space for it in my place as an adult. So, rather than talk about something I know very little about, I thought to look up if there are other meanings for the phrase "dog's breath".

Turns out, dog's breath is also an idiom, which means "not pleasant" or "unpopular". And this got me thinking. These days, its so difficult to have an unpopular opinion.
I don't want to sound like that old lady down the street who spends her time harping about the "good old days" before the internet and social media. But the truth is, these days, its so easy for trolls, haters, and just everyday jerks to attack people with unpopular opinions, calling them names and throwing insults at them. Worse is when the insult is thinly disguised as an critique, as if that is supposed to make the insult look less demeaning and more valid.
This is sad. Because we need unpopular opinions. We're not drones, after all. There should always be contrarian ideas to challenge the status quo. People who are willing to take the red pill, while everyone swallows the blue pill. Someone who is willing to stand up and point out that the emperor is naked, even if doing so exposes them to potential hate.
After all, unless we're talking about universal truths or the laws of physics, it's unlikely that all of us will always agree on the same things.
This is Day 278 of 5-Minute Freewrite. You can view the prompt here.
It's also Day 22 of my goal to write every day, for 100 days.
